Peace, tranquility and beauty
Many people are not aware of the Finger Lakes Trail. The FLT is 562 miles long and connects the Allegheny Mountains in PA/SW NY with the Catskills. The FLT is a premiere trail in the NE surrounded by beautiful countryside.
There is more to NY then The Big Apple
"Yes we have wineries"
When most people think of NY they thik of The City or Long Island or the Hamptons that is just scratching the surface!!We live in Upstate NY (technically the central region). We are surrounded by The Finger Lakes which are a group of very large, very deep, usually ice cold lakes that were carved out by glaciers. The area is known for its gorges, grapes and wineries. Dundee is a very small town that has one stop light and one main street. However there are many towns close by that have the modern conveniences of fast food, Wal Mart, etc.
The climate created by the lakes makes for ideal grape growing conditions hence the 100's of wineries that have popped up all over the area. There are lots of hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, inns and campgrounds. We have many state parks and some major hiking trails with some currently under construction. The Finger Lakes trail is popular as well as The Outlet Trail which starts in the Village of Penn Yan and ends near Seneca Lake. We are also known for the Windmill Farm and Craft Market which is one of the largets markets of its kind in the Northeast (only open on Saturdays from April through the 2nd week of Dec and summer holidays)
Area State Parks
There are many state parks in the region many a reasonable distance for a day trip. A few of our favorites are Letchworth which is located in Wyoming County, Alleghany, Stony Brook among others. We suggest checking out the NY state DEC website for more information.
