Hornell is a city of about 9000 people packed into 3 square miles of real-estate. It was a bustling industrial center on the Erie Railroad but as the rail traffic declined so did the town. Today. it is trying to rise on the shoulders of technical and commercial businesses.

The city is located in the Canisteo Valley and the area is accessible via the Southern Tier Expressway (I-86/route17) at exit 34.

"Union Park"

This was one of the most beautiful city parks that I have ever seen. But was removed to Urban Renewal. It is now a Highway and Burger King.

"Union Park Early Days"

"Sherwood Hotel"

This is the great Sherwood Hotel that was under the same Urbun Renewal process. I remember all the Deer Hunters coming into Hornell and stay here. We all couldn't wait to see the Deer on the cars and in the back of the trucks on Opening Day of Deer Season.

Hornell--A Jewel in the Southern Tier of NY

"Hornell, the City"

Nestled just to the west of the Finger Lakes, Hornell is a quaint little town in the Southern Tier of NY. Hornell is known as the Maple City and is the hometown of actor Bill Pullman. Hornell has the basic fast food joints, mom& pop restaurants, locally-owned businesses and even a Wal-Mart. Located just down the road from Alfred University and SUNY College of Technology and Alfred, it's a nice little town that's not too far from such places as Corning, Keuka Lake, Elmira, and Rochester.

If your idea of fun is travelling an untold number of miles to get to a place in the middle of no-where, then Hornell should be one of your top ten destinations.

And if you really get a kick of shopping at a Wal-Mart, then this trip is a bonus
