Lake Placid Lodge

This place is a fantastic special treat. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny, we obviously had a very memorable three days and nights here. The service was seamless. Everything just seemed to happen. The staff is very friendly and seemed to expect all of your needs in advance. I described our room earlier on this page and the atmosphere in 'Hearthside' really was a highlight of our trip, and will be one of the biggest reason why we will go back to Lake Placid. Along with the fact that we want to get ourselves in good enough shape to climb one of the 4000 ft. peaks the next time.

Unique Quality: The views from the terrace out onto Lake Placid with Whiteface Mountain in the background are incredible. Any picture would have a hard time doing it justice. On the terrace is an outdoor fireplace and having a cocktail there in the evening before dinner was really nice. The bartender would rap my wife up in the softest shawl while we hung out waiting for our table for dinner. The restaurant serves a great meal that is an event itself, and should be for the investment. We ate there three nights and the service was excellent, the wine list reads like a novel and could be intimidating to some. I just headed toward what I knew we liked before I got all mixed up with too many offerings. One of the best memories is the firepit down by the boatdock and spending the last part of the day by the fire roasting marshmellows.

More about Lake Placid Lodge

Adirondack Heaven

"The Dream Lodge"

My wife and I drove from Boston about six hours to get to Lake Placid. Arriving at the Lake Placid Lodge was a great relief. A relief not only in the sense that we needed to get out of the car, but what a beautiful setting for spending the next three days decompressing from the craziness of the DC area. The Lodge was not an inexpensive venture, but it turned out to be worth every penny. The atomosphere is very nice without being too pretentious. Our room was called 'Hearthside' and was a cozy layout including a king sized bed with outstanding bedding. A wonderful stone fireplace, walk-in closet and ten times the bathroom space we are used to at home. We really enjoyed the Lodge and look forward to our next visit.

3 Days in Lake Placid

by SurfaceTravel

We flew to Toronto, stayed there a few days, rented a car and drove to Lake Placid. We stayed there for two nights at a decent hotel on the lake (see tip).

We would have preferred to stay in Lake Placid Lodge, which we had found on the Internet, but hadn't wanted to lock into a reservation. We stopped by and had a look, but the only room available had no view, so we didn't stay. The place looked absolutely magnificent and we would go there in the future. (I've heard since then that the main building burned down, but that you can still stay at their cottages.)

We walked around town and checked out the Olympic sites (see tip). Afterwards we drove down to Newport, Rhode Island.
