Get out into the mountains and...

Get out into the mountains and hike around. The High Peaks area is just glorious any time of year. Climb to the top of a mountain and see the landscape spread before you clothed in the colored leaves of autumn is just breath taking.
Go hiking!!

On your way to Lake Placid, you'll pass some great areas to go hiking! During good weather, you'll see cars parked along Rt 9 after you've gotten off the exit 30 on I-87. In fact, the first thing you'll pass is a natural spring on the left after you get off the exit, less than a mile down Rt 9. Route 9 turns into Rt 73, which takes you in to Lake Placid.
Be careful driving around these cars. You'll want to part near them and parking on the shoulder only is not advised. Make sure your car is clearly off the road, and be sure to push your outside rear view mirror in towards your side window, too!! This is pretty much all part of the Adirondack Park Reserve.
You'll see a few trails here and there. There's a small waterfall, too. Excellent for photography!! There's a river that you can canoe around that runs along with the highway, so have a great time!!
Lake Placid- Home of the "Miracle"
by VioletVampire13
Lake Placid is a small town in upstate New York. It was home to both the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympics. My family and I visited here on our way up to Montreal. Being a huge hockey player and fan, I was so excited to see the Herb Brook's Arena, where 1980's "Miracle on Ice" occured.
There is a lot to see and do up in Lake Placid, and the scenery there is absolutely amazing, all of the mountains and the lake.
I can't wait to go back, hopefully in the near future.
do you believe in miracle?

To American sports fan this phrase is forever etch in their mind. This was coined by Al Michaels(?) when the unheralded '80 US Olympic Hockey team beat the more talented Russian team. This miracle took place in this very same rink in Lake Placid, NY.
If your afraid heights I dont recommend going to the ski jump platform but if your not the faint of heart take the lift up to the top to see a great view of Lake placid
who's number 1?
Lake Placid Area
by Bwana_Brown
During September, 2002, my wife and I drove through New England and the Lake Placid area of New York state on the way to a series of meetings that I was attending in Albany, NY. We had great weather, with temperatures in the high 20s and beautiful sunny days, including while we were in the Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid. This is a very picturesque part of the state and we took the opportunity to get out of the rental van and do some mountain climbing. Photo of us atop the 4100 foot Cascade Mt. a few miles outside Lake Placid. It was a hot climb but the view from the top was fantastic. In our excitement to get climbing, we left our camera in the van and only realized it when we were halfway up! Luckily, a couple of very kind women from Montreal were on the peak as well and they consented to taking our picture with their camera and then mailed the photos to us a couple of weeks later! Meeting people like that is part of the fun of travelling!
