New Paltz/Hudson Valley/Catskills
by feline01
I'm looking for an affordable romantic get-away for this weekend anywhere in the above region (so forget about Mohonk, too rich for my tastes) preferably with a 2-person jacuzzi in the room. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't care if it's a B&B, hotel, or motel as long as it's clean and has a nice ambiance.
Thanks
Sue

Sue,
Did you ever get a reply to your question? I know there are cool bed and breakfast places around but I dont know about the jacuzzies here. There is a jellystone camp ground in Gardner ( Rt 299 west, left on 44/55 lookfor signs.) with cabins, not expensive....My sis and hers went to a local KOA camp ground out here and rented a cabin and they had a great time.... ( no jacuzzi though). I did however spend a nice time once at a cabin in the town of milford ( @ 11/2 hour south of mohonk down Rt 209 ) and IT HAD A JACUZZI ! I forget the name of the resort but it was clean and not too expensive. During the day we went to Bushkill Falls (farther down 209)it was cool and romantic and more. If you make a right at the light in millford and then i think your first left, thats the directions i got and we found it. Good Luck !

HI! I don't know if you went away already or not. I recommend The Meadowwood Inn. it's about 20 minutes from phonecia ny (maye an hour from newpaltz). the town was cute and the rooms were great! my fiance and i stayed in the Meadowroom and it had a jacuzzi that we both fit in and i had the best night's sleep there that i'd had in weeks, literally. every room is suite sized as it was built originally to be an Inn back in the late 1800's. wonderful!
hope you had a great time!
Travel Tips for New Paltz
FARMER'S MARKER
by moiraistyx
Every Sunday during the warmer months of the year an area about half a block from the intersection of Main and Chestnut, is turned into a Farmer's Market. I am all about supporting local farmers so I take every chance I get to buy their produce. The Farmer's Market also has other vendors including florist, wineries and a local goat cheese producer. This last trip to the Farmer's Market was great. I think it was dog day since everyone seemed to be waling their dog, either that or they were walking their dog and stumbled upon the market. There was also a local maple syrup maker, he had the most wonderful maple sugar candy I've ever had. I bought some lovely Gala apples and a bunch of flowers for my mother. This years Farmer's Market will close at the end of the business day on October 29th. Till then you can visit on Sundays from 10 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine.
ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL FALL COLORS
by moiraistyx
New Paltz is loaded with the most beautiful foliage during the Fall. Everywhere you look you will see brillants reds, yellows and oranges. I love to take the kis outside and have them pick out some leaves for making a collage. If you catch the leaves at the right time of day you will get some fantastic pictures of the leaves against the blue sky. Hiking at Minnewaska with Patrick on a warm October day.
THE TASTE OF NEW PALTZ
by moiraistyx
Every Fall the New Paltz Chamber of Commerce sponsors the taste of New Paltz. This event is all about the food. Local restaurants, eateries, pubs, diners, bakeries etc. set up stand with their best dishes and offer you "tastes" of them for $1 to $2. There's stuff for the children too, pony rides, face painting, arts and crafts.
This even is usually held the 3rd Sunday in September from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Ulster County Fair grounds.
Every year the entertainment on center stage changes, but you can almost guarantee that there will be some sort of athletic demonstration and a bunch of little bands. This year there was a small petting zoo for the children and 2 of those blow up jumping contraptions.
The easiest way to get there is to take route 32 north to Modena, turn onto 44/55 west, follow through Gardiner to Albany Post Road, make a left and follow the road until you see the fair grounds.
Commonly called Pigs. A great Lunch Place
by cjg1 about P & G's
This place has been around for forever. I remember going to a babysitter when i was about 3 or 4 just around the corner from here. It was a happening bar back then. Still is. And has an excellent menu for lunch and dinner. At night it turns into a nightlife spot. I usually go with a sandwich of some sorts. Chicken usually being my favorite.
YUMMY NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA
by moiraistyx about Gourmet Pizza
Gourmet Pizza is a small pizza shop located in the middle of a bunch of stores and coffee shops. There are about 6 tables to sit at and one big counter to place your order at. While we were there, there was an endless train of traffic coming in and out of the shop. Most folks seemed to order a slice or two and then leave. The boys all enjoyed a slice, Patrick had one with pepperoni. Slices are gonna run you about $2.25 each, $2.80 with a topping. They have a variety of beverages, including beer. The boys laughed at a sign in the store which had a set of rules. What they found funny was the fact that it had "NO FIGHTING" listed 3 times. The pizza was very tasty and the workers were very nice and quick to get your order. If you get bored there's a pin ball machine to pass some time. I had a slice of cheese pizza.
