what is the weather normally like in New York in mid October?
by clareabee
Hi guys,
I know this is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string but just wondered if anybody had any insight. Obviously I am busy planning my Honeymoon for next October 2011 and have been keeping an eye on the weather this past week as we intend on going october 19th 2011 for 7 nights.
It seems like the weather can be 54 one day and 71 the next - does anybody have any advice?
My friends went for Halloween last year and the weather was warm some days, not so warm the rest!
Thanks
Clare

Yep, this time of year is very up and down and unpredictable. The key word for clothing is 'layers'.

hmmm was thinking somebody would say that! - i won't need heavy boots or anything I assume though (mind you you never know but hey if I don't take any and it is bad weather i will HAVE to buy some ha ha!)
Thanks!

No, winter boots, gloves, thick hats, won't be needed- It definitely won't be snowy and icy.

hey...
i think you hit it on the head. it can vary greatly. today/tomorrow will be close to 70! but by next week, they are talking about a high of 50! I remember some Halloweens that were COLD and some that were mild. I would def bring a jacket that could get you through a "potential" 40ish+ degree night. you should be set if you do that.

thanks for that - layering, waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes....after my visit last november I realised how priceless these were and fashion and heels went out of the window!

It is often unpredictable from day to day because the seasons are changing. If you are there for four days, expect it to be damp at least one of them. I always pack heaviest in the fall and spring because of the seasonal changes. Can be upper 70's one day (like today) and low 50's the next. Evenings can be in the 40's.
Enjoy your honeymoon.
Cheers!

Travel Tips for New York City
NYC Information Centers
by Tom_In_Madison
A first stop to get pamphlets, flyers, discounts and info from experts is the NYC Tourist Center.
They have brochures and discount coupons to a diverse selection of destinations throughout the city. Info on hotels, culture, dining, shopping, sightseeing, events, attractions, tours and transportation. The Centers have discount coupons to attractions and theaters.
there are 3 centers, and 2 kiosks around town. I went to the one just a couple blocks north of Times Square, 810 Seventh Avenue, between 52nd & 53rd Streets. The others are at the Apollo in Harlem and the Financial District/Wall St and two Visitor Kiosks (located Downtown at City Hall Park and in Chinatown)

Public Restrooms
by aukjejetty
I love that there are public restrooms everywhere, and that they are free. In my country you have to pay for almost every public toilet you go to. Sometimes up to $1, which I think is rediculous.
If you are in Lower Manhattan on the West side, go to The World Financial Center for some clean toilets. If you are shopping in Midtown you can go to Macy's or Bloomingdales. In chinatown it is a little bit difficult to find a good restroom, but if you walk up a little on Broadway, you can use the restroom at Pearl River (477 Broadway - SoHo area)
As soon as I think of more restrooms to go to, I will add them to the list.

The single best thing was the main area where MTV and all the ads are. It was so big and so crowded. I'd never been to anything like that. My best memeory was the Rocky Horror show. I'm a big fan of the movie and everything so when I went I was so excited. and the best thing was Luke Perry was one of the stars of the show!!! I freaked cuz I was such a Beverly Hills 90210 fan.
New York City Tip
by DrewV
My favourite memory of New York would have to be participating in the National Model United Nations my freshman year of college. As the honored representative from Ghana, I had the privelege of speaking at the podium in the UN assembly chamber. An experience of a lifetime, really. All thanks to my head delegate who decided to skip the session to make out with some guy from Chicago.

Women, even men, if u like to shop, New York is the right place for it.
It can be expensive, but you will find all the best designer, brands and couture in this frenentic, crazy and amazing city. With ten floors and half million item for sale , Macy's claim to be the largst department store in the world is entirely believable. Shoppers can sift through kitchenware, cosmetics, clothing, footwear, stop for lunch and a haircut, and even buy a souvenir from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Be warned, though - you'll nedd plenty of stamina
