A haven from it all. by horizon2
For value, breath-taking beauty, and to see that skyline like youve seen it a hundred times on album covers, its got to be a trip out on the Staten Island ferry at sunset. Get on board but dont go inside (stay at the back). Watch as you pull away from the terminal and the Manhattan image appears before you in all its illuminated glory. Not just as beautiful as it was pre-Sept11 but still something youll always remember. Oh, and that boat trips free! When it all gets too much for you and youre absolutely burned out with the speed of it all (sore feet?), enter Grand Central Station. Marble staircases, chandeleers, low lighting, its a ballroom not a train station. Get yourself a coffee, throw your bags on the floor, sit down with your back to a wall (upstairs). And watch the world go by. I guarantee this will relax you, invigorate you, and give you the most beautiful inner feeling youll find in the city. (Im buzzing now writing this). Gorgeous.
