Since I live here, I have...

Since I live here, I have never stayed in any hotels here, however I have had friends who have recommended cheaper, 'off the beaten path' hotels such as The Gershwin Hotel, The Amsterdam Inn, and of course, if you're really on a tight budget, there's always the AYH (American Youth Hostel) and the YMCA. The Gershwin has funky decor and the Amsterdam is a great neighborhoody location.

I know this neighborhood very well...it's quite safe and has tons of restaurants, shops and is near a subway stop, too. I looked at the website for the Amsterdam Inn. I'd stay there!! Let us know how it was if you do.

Good Hostels in NYC?
by megs20
Hey guys, I'm just looking at some hostels for my trip to NYC, and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions, experiences, etc. So far the ones that looks pretty good (from what I can tell on the Internet) are: Amsterdan Inn, The Wanderers Inn and Big Apple Hostel.
Thanks!
Megan

I've heard good things about the Amsterdam Inn - if that's the one at 103rd and Amsterdam. Someone I know works there as a volunteer.

The least expensive area is in Long Island City. LIC isn't a separate city, it's a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens, and is only 10 minutes by subway from midtown Manhattan. It's very convenient if you're flying in and out of JFK. If you're flying into Newark, you will want to look at hotels in New Jersey.
Have a look at these LIC budget hotels. Read through the reviews on each hotel and see if any suit your dates and budget.

Hi, I used this site to find low budget hotels on New-York:

You can easily compare prices from all the operators.
P.S. I personally suggest you Amsterdam Inn hotel. Cheap, clean and good position. :)

Hotel 17, Hotel 31, Murray Hill Inn, Union Square Inn. Some rooms are europaen style with shared bathroom. All are in Manhattan. All are in decent neighborhoods and near subway.

www.citylightsbedandbreafast.com has b&b accomodations;have booked twice, once with in a b&b in the Murray Hill area...the other time 57th and 8th avenue; some B&Bs are equipped for families...some are hosted, others are unhosted; some include bfast, others do not.
