NYC public transport pre-pay card?

by cheddah

Hey, I will be in NYC for 7 days soon, I was wondering if there is a pass I can buy for the metro that would give me unlimited travel?

Assuming there is a pass, could I use this to get to Newark Penn Station as I will unfortunately (due to the distance) be staying near there. If not, is there a different pass I can buy to get from Newark Penn station to NYC Penn station each day?

Thanks

Check the following web site with info about Newark as well as getting around NYC. http://www.shadovitz.com/nyctransport/index.html

You can *not* use the MTA's Unlimited Ride Metrocard on NJ Transit trains between Newark Penn Station and NYC Penn Station.

You *can* use the MTA's Pay-Per-Ride Metrocard on the PATH trains which runs between Newark Penn Station and serveral stations in Manhattan including one at 33rd Street and 6th Avenue.

Get a 7 day unlimited Metrocard for the NYC subway/bus @ $27. As stated, you can NOT use it on the PATH system which services the Newark>NY route. You can buy a SmartLink 7-day unlimited card for $18 that you can use for the NJ>NY>NJ routes.

OK thanks, so I definitely can't use the metro card on the path train?

Nope.

TexasDave is WRONG.

You *can* use the Pay-per-ride Metrocard on the PATH.

Thanks guys! So I can use the pay per ride metrocard on the path train but not the unlimited metrocard on the path train? I think thats what I understood from the 2 sites too.

Cheers!

Soho time

by mehbos37

Soho is still one of my favourite places in New York..

I made my way to Soho again on a grey, chilly New York sunday..

I woke up late because of saturday night fever ,and I was late for a nice brunch..

But believe me,Soho is ideal place for sundays, brunchs and surprising discoveries.. I spotted a nice shop called -Evolution- on spiring street in Soho..

I am very into old things, fossils, ancient rocks and this shop offers plenty of choices..

Visit FAO Schwartz!!!! Its the most amazing toy store in the world and you never know what celebrety you may run into. I've seen Wynona Ryder, Teley Savalis, Donald Trump, Michael j. fox.... But the most amazing part is you can play with anything you like. This store also has the biggest barbi store - great gift ideas. Its located on the corner of Maddison and 5th - in the Ford building directly across from the Plaza Hotel and adjacent to Central Park. Its a must see!!! My very first big screen movie - at the Met... back in the 70's was Tom Sawyer. The size of the Met and the look of this theatre was awe-inspiring to a child from a small town.

visit Times Square, Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, & Broadway. The buildings, people, and the city's energy are all incredible. There are no words to describe New York City adequately. It's the most exciting place in the world! Flying by the Statue of Liberty.

Sunset on the Empire State Building

by KaiM

A sunset viewed from the top of the Empire State Building. When the sun goes down over Jersey, the world 400 meters below on the streets of Manhattan seems to be so quiet and peaceful. Daylight goes and thousands - no, millions - of artificial lights lighten the Big Apple. Amazing. Just stay at the Empire State Building for a couple of hours and watch the change from day to night.
