Penn station to JFK and back.. still the best route?

by Bavavia

hello
Is it still the preferred ( cheapest) route to get to JFK from Penn station to JFK by taking the A Train to far rockaway, then taking steps down and cross street and picking up JFK bus ( outside the drugstore there) or is there a better way like LIRR or are they the same pretty much?
thanks!!

I've never used the subway & bus.

When I was there in October (going JFK to Penn) I took the airtrain from the terminal to Jamaica LIRR, and the LIRR from Jamaica to Penn. Quick & easy. Can't remember prices, but probably on my tips pages for New York.

Travel Tips for New York City

Forgotten New York City

by csordila

Many subway stations in New York City are no longer used for their original purpose. and were closed long ago. However, some of them are architectural marvels that give a glimpse into the past of the city.
One of them is the City Hall ghost station, which is probably the world's most beautiful former subway station. It has been closed to the public since 1945. It was opened again for a while and serves as scene of fine art events, fashion shows, exhibitions.

Ground Zero

by SnoopySue

To visit the site where one of the most heinous crimes ever has been committed is something I will never forget. Touched and sad, at the same time I was so dissapointed in those who clicking with their cameras and making loud comments showed no respect to what happened there. I didn't need photo to take my memories from Ground Zero.

Experience NY City. I was...

Experience NY City. I was going to write about the 'The Greatest Bar on Earth', which was located on the 102th floor of the World Trade Center. But it's not there anymore :o( It was a beautiful place. When you visit the city, remember the people. The picture of the restaurant was taken next to 'The Greatest Bar on Earth' The city that never sleeps! The diversity of culture is incredible. The city is very clean, people are friendly and they have the best pizza.

Hang out in Times Square....

by leigthM

Hang out in Times Square. After you hit all the shops and restaraunts and take all your pictures of the ad's just stand on the island that splits Broadway at 43rd street and watch it all happen!! And check out the HOT cops!!! My favorite thing was just walking around with my best friend, bundled up as much as we could be since it was 9 degrees and stopping in Starbucks every couple blocks to get warm. I always miss the subways!!! I miss not having to drive everyday, and just people watching and seeing how different we all are.

Guggenheim - let me see those hands

by Gard

I’m not that much into art but the Guggenheim museum is pretty famous so we decided to visit it. I guess the building itself is as well known as the museum itself. We took the subway to 86th street if I’m not mistaken and we just walked over towards Central Park and Fifth Avenue. Soon the characteristic white rings appeared in front of us and it is such a cool building. Of course there were some construction work going on (as usual in big cities) but that didn’t destroy the “experience”. The museum was a lot smaller than I had imagined it to be and it contained a lot more pictures than expected. Maybe it was because there was a special exhibition called “Speaking with hands”. We only spent about an hour in the museum. According to their web site the admission is about 15$ but we used the New York CityPass to get in. We were not allowed to take pictures above the first floor…one English guy tried to pull the old “I thought the first floor was the ground floor” and the guards didn’t seem to happy with that :-)
