Phones, public or cell?
by chodearm
Believe me, I tell no lies, if your in town for more than a week, you might want to get yourself a declining balance cell phone. Pay phones here are soooo hit or miss, mostly swaying more towards the miss half. If they not stealing your quarters with no connection then they may be doubling as a public toilet or trashcan. Go to Virgin Records in Union Square or Times Square to get a phone that works, I'm sure there is other places you can get these as well.

Let's get the obvious out of...
by dantes2
Let's get the obvious out of the way. There are 3 things tourists might be interested in seeing in the Bronx. They are respectively= 1. The Bronx Zoo (far better than San Diego- believe me) 2. the Botanical Gardens, and 3. Yankee Stadium (unless you like Baseball, this will mean NOTHING to you).
So:
General Information
Location ->
The Bronx Zoo is located at Fordham Road and the Bronx River Parkway, Bronx, New York and easily accessible from Exit 6 on the Bronx River Parkway.
For further information please call 718-367-1010.(Listen- if you are in midtown- take the #2 train (in New York City 'train' means subway) north to Pelham Parkway. When you get off ask anybody you see and they will direct you- you are about 1/4 mile from the entrance).
Botanical Gardens::::
Hours and Admission The Garden is open all year. 10am to 6pm (April - October) 10am to 4pm (November - March) 10am to 6pm (November 24 - January 7) Tuesday - Sunday and Monday Holidays (Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas day) The Garden grounds admission is $3 for adults; $2 for senior citizens and students; $1 for children 2-12. (The Botanical Gardens are DIRECTLY across from the Zoo- but you really would NOT want to see these two attractions in the same day)>
Narrated tram tours: gardens, collections, and grounds, every 20 minutes; year-round. Seven stops along the way allow passengers to explore areas of interest before reboarding. ($1 for adults, seniors, and students; $.50 for children 2-12).
Narrated golf cart tours: April - October, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, 11am-3pm, on the hour. Reservations required - sign up at the Conservatory Visitors' Center. Tours leave on the hour. Tours are 45 minutes and cover what is in bloom at the Garden. ($6 for adults; $4 for senior, students, and children 2-12.Golf carts seat 7 people.
OK!- Now that that's finished- let's talk about the Bronx! Fond but painful memory of the Bronx 'burning down' in the summer of 1969.
Take a bus sightseeing tour....

Take a bus sightseeing tour. It is the only way you know what you are seeing and learn lots of history and other info about the city. Our bus tour guide told us to sing a certain song as we passed one area, she said now we could tell all our friends we sang on Broadway!
Squirrels

We saw squirrels everywhere in the parks in New York City! They were so cute that we took some photos...and got some very funny looks from people sitting around reading their newspapers or chatting with friends...hehe!! These little guys are so cute, I really wanted to bring one home! ;)
