I recommend walking the Brooklyn Bridge, either from Manhattan to Brooklyn or vice versa. It is absolutely wonderful. I would like to provide anyone with information on planning a trip to NYC/5 boroughs. I will be eager to make recommendations on sights, restaurants, things to do and things not to do. I want my Towers back. I'm born and raised in Brooklyn. I love NY. There is so much to do and see. The people are wonderful. There is no other city like it!
Have You Seen a Broadway Show?
by nicolettart
If you have never been to a Broadway show, try to see one when you're here. I recommend the following:
1. Lion King: This is my top pick for many reasons. And don't think this is just for kids. The singing, set design ,and especially the costumes will totally amaze you. A must see, if you can get tickets!
2. Phantom of the Opera: A very "traditional" Broadway show. Beautiful costumes, set, and singing.
3. Jekyll and Hyde: Very original set design, an excellent show and story! You will love it!
4. The Boy From Oz: Great singing and dancing. And Hugh Jackman is....phenomenal!!
There are many great shows, so try to see one!

Check out all the different neighborhoods. New York (and that includes Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island) is all about cultural variety.
For some good ethnic food and culture see these places:
Russian - Brighton Beach, Brooklyn
Moroccan - Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn Hts, Brooklyn
Chinese - Chinatown, Manhattan
Dominican - Washington Hts, Manhattan
Colombian - Roosevelt Ave, Queens
Korean - 32nd, 33rd Streets in Manhattan; Elmhurst, Queens
Vietnamese - some excellent places in Chinatown
Arabic - Queens, Brooklyn
Greek - Astoria, Queens
Japanese - Sushi is the #1 food in Manhattan
Brazilian - 46th Street, Manhattan - Theater District
Puerto Rican - Spanish Harlem, Manhattan
Soul Food - Harlem, Manhattan
Indian - EVERYWHERE in NY
I'll add more as I think of them!
Also, right accross the river in West New York (that's the name of the city), New Jersey, there's a very Latin area around Bergenline Avenue, where there's excellent Peruvian (very good ceviche), Ecuadorian, Mexican (real mexican, not gringo), Colombian, Cuban, Dominican, etc... food.
The photo is from a Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach (where we celebrated my mom's birthday) - lots of food, lots of alcohol, and lots of music.
Take a walk out on to Brooklyn...

Take a walk out on to Brooklyn Bridge during the daytime. The view of the new york skyline is fabulous. Equally a trip to the top of the Empire State Building at night is awe inspiring and is like looking down on a million trillion stars or a scene out of the movie The Fifth Element. Make sure you look up as well as the top of the building is wicked and looks like a space craft ready to take to another galaxy. Shopping in soho and chinatown is excellent if you love to shop. You can find almost anything and the fashion is well and truly upbeat and with the times. There is also lots of quality second hand shops for clothing. I also miss the array of cultures and excellent art exhibits. New York is an a place where all form of art are easily accesible and appreciated.
