pubs

by porkster1960

are there many good bars near the hotel metro ,new york.thank you

Re: pubs

by TexasDave

It's right in the middle of Times Square, there are all kinds of bars. What is your idea of a "good" bar? Pub style? Sleek disco style? Rooftop bar? Hotel bar with history? Bar with cheap drinks/dancing/other? You might want to specify a little more about what you are looking for.

A little off of Times Sq but walkable to anywhere.......Subway also steps from the hotel: 34th Street station.

Hotel is on West 35th St. a half a mile from Times Square. If you want a nice pub atmosphere but somewhat pricy Keen's Tap Room on West 36th east of Sixth Ave towards fifth. Also has great bar menu much less pricy than restaurant. Great Steak sandwich, not cheap.

You've gotten good recommendations here. If you want to find restaurants, shops, or other bars in the area you can try using Google Maps.

Google Maps has a nifty little feature for finding what you need near where you are. If you know the address of a restaurant or hotel, you can submit it into maps.google.com and Google will present you with a great map. But if you look near the top of the page you will see a link that reads: ‘Find businesses’. Click on that. Google then asks: ‘Find what’. If you type ‘delis’, ‘convenience stores’, ‘restaurants’, ‘bars’,’ hardware stores’, ‘beauty salons’, whatever and etc, Google gives the responses in a list on the left and locates them on the map center panel. It’s my favorite feature on Google Maps.

Travel Tips for New York City

Christmas in New York

by feag

I was expecting lots more Christmas decorations - why not sure, maybe watched too many movies! but there were some nice sights - enjoyable to see. I liked going up to the top of the rock for the views, strolling in central park watching the squirrels and at winter, watching the ice skaters on the woolman rink.

The Upper West Side

by kenadams

Once upon a time, the Upper West side was a remote, out of hand area of Manhattan where few people really wanted to live. Then came a huge population growth and the subway.
Until not too long ago, this area was still pretty unappealing to most newyorkers. I know people who say they never would have walked on Riverside drive, and who chose to live near Washington Square rather than on Central Park West.
If you've seen West Side Story, you probably know what I'm talking about. After that production, the area between 64th, 70th streets, broadway and West End Avenue underwent a serious renewal. The Lincoln Center for the performing arts was built, and the huge residential complex of Lincoln Towers was erected (that's where I'm writing from).
By the seventies, the Upper West side was up and swinging toward becoming one of the trendiest places to live in New York City. Movies like Nora Ephron's "You've got mail", and tv shows like Will&Grace are set in this neighborhood.
The final stage of the Upper West Side Saga has been recently completed, as billionare Donald Trump built new towers on Riverside drive.

Visit the canalpath:THE ERIE CANAL opened up commerce in the 1880s from New York City to the interior of America and was the most important commerce route of its day. Today it is a recreational area that runs from Albany to Buffalo fro pleasure boats and trails for hikers and bikers.

Can You Tell I Like Birds?

by mcpangie

There's an intersting bird exhibit at the Bronx Zoo. There's a place where the children were able to run to see how they matched up to the ostrich. There's a huge ege the size of some prehistoric bird. It's a place to learn something, for adults and children.
