On Arrival

Take the train. it's $13 one-way or at least it was when i was there not so long ago. it's comfortable and runs at regular intervals.
Also, a good hotel to stay in is the Madison Hotel on E27th street. it's cheap and cheerful and is in a great location. we stayed there last december and of all the times i've visited NYC, it has been the best hotel i've stayed in. it's 5 blocks from Empire State Building, has a delicious deli at the corner of 28th and is close to the tube. hope this helps.
If architecture is your thing, you have to wander sown Fifth to St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The horse and carriage ride in Central Park is a must. The first time i visited the Statue of Libery and Ellis Island and saw all the exhibits from the past.
i miss the pace of life, the great food and shopping and the wonderful architecture. also the nightlife is pretty good!

Hang out around Time Square,...
by ronco4704
Hang out around Time Square, just to watch the people. Ride the subways. Very safe during regular hours. I pick up a subway map at the ticket booth. If I look at it while riding the train I always have New Yorkers asking for directions. Great way to meet people casually. The theater (when I can afford it). I have never seen a really bad show, and a lot of really great shows over the last 15 years.

The Seaport is within walking distance of Wall Street and Lower Manhattan's many tourist destinations, and is listed as one of New York City's five top attractions. Street performers, outdoor concerts, landmark buildings, excursion vessels, historic ships, the holiday Chorus Tree, breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty create a unique waterfront environment you will find only at The Seaport.
