We had been to NYC on several occasions before we found out about the Avalon Hotel through the internet. We were more than pleasantly surprised by the luxurious "deluxe suite" and the enormous marble bathroom. The complimentary breakfast was a bonus, and of course the midtown Manhatten location can't be beat. We will definately be telling our friends and relatives about our "Fantastic Find".
I have stayed at the Avalon at least a dozen times over the past 6 years, and it's great to see the hotel still delivering. The location is outstanding, the help is unfailingly polite, (Carmen is my favorite Jersey girl !), and the rooms are always clean, bright and comfortable.
I've had my last two employers add the Avalon to our 'preferred list' in New York, and the corporate deals they offer are excellent. Why pay $500 for a closet at the Plaza wqhen you can pay less than half that for a suite at the Avalon ?
The breakfast room is a nice amenity, (if the fruit flies aren't too busy), but I do miss Scott's Martinis at the old Coach House, alas !
we stayed at the avalon back in october 2003. the location was great because we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. if you're into shopping, then the avalon is a convenient location.
This great find of a boutique hotel lived up to the positive reviews here. I had a junior suite which was plenty roomy for New York. The marble bathroom was spacious and the hair dryer actually has enough power to dry hair, unlike other hotel dryers. The service was terrific.
When I arrived I discovered my bathroom sink wasn't draining. On my way out I told the front desk person, who immediately got on the phone to maintenance. When I returned a few hours later, everything was working perfectly. The complimentary champagne was an excellent French variety.
I'll be returning when my daughter graduates from NYU in May.
Just spent my second stay at the Avalon and still can't say enough good things about it. The rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. The staff couldn't be more polite and helpful, and the location is great. It feels like home away from home and I plan to stay here again during my next visit. I love the Avalon!
This is a great hotel for the money and location. If I go again I will stay here. Rooms are bigger than your average New york hotel room.
Has anybody stayed at this hotel? It is on East 32nd Street. It is described as having 4 Mobil Starts - does this equate to the British 4* rating?
