my travel agent has suggested this hotel - I know where it is as we stayed at the affinia manhattan last year and i am happy with the location, the reviews on trip advisor seem good but does anybody have any personal experience/thoughts on this hotel?

Just spent 5 nights in the New Yorker hotel, I was more than happy with it, rooms I suppose are not the largest but you spent little time in them anyway, but they are clean beds are clean and comfy, bathroom was clean, beds made up and fresh towels everyday, staff friendly and helpful, good bar.... I would stay there again and so would the other couple we went with.

Check weather.com for the forecast and dress accordingly. It's a walking city, so wear very comfortable walking shoes. It's also a big place with lots of stores; if you need something, you can purchase it in any price range. No one is looking at you, so unless you're going somewhere hip where you need to make an impression, don't worry about how you look. We'll all probably know you're a tourist anyhow because you'll be walking too slowly.

for my memories of a building i did not manage to get to the top viewing fllor walking, watching, savouring
The best part of New York, in my opinion, is the 'off the beaten path' spots!!! The rural areas in New York are beautiful to see and is home to wonderfully friendly people!!! Most people, not from here, think that New York is the city but there is SO MUCH more to New York than just the city!!!
Very tough to say, but I think a night time walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is wonderful. It is one of the best views of the city. The bridge is beautiful. Hard to imagine anyone being disappointed in it. I would miss the freedom to reinvent yourself at any moment, and the freedom to do just about anything at anytime you want to.
I you go to NYC in the fall, Go to Central Park and look at those absolutley amazing colors on the trees. This was so pretty, I even brought some of the leaves home with me and they are permanently on display in my New York Scrap book.
This is like a whole new world, Central Park..... EVERY city should be REQUIRED to have one....
