Hotel had no booking details on my arrival. Had to wait 20 mins for a lift. Needed a twin room so they gave us a double with a camp bed! Asked for non-smoking room they gave us smoking. Spent the rest of the evening looking for another hotel. Checked out 4 hours later and they tried to charge us for the whole night. A total cock up! Don't go there!
Unique Quality: Didn't hang around long enough to find out!
Directions: The one in Times Square
My trip to New York this past New Years was amazing and much more pleasant then the last time I was here (9-11-01) working. Time Square was madness on NYE but a lot of fun. NYPD had the situation under control and all one million revelers had the time of their lives.
Much to see and do, I suggest at least 4 full days. Subways are easiest and cheapest form of travel but there is nothing like a pulse raising New York City taxi ride. Other forms of transportation can range from bus to limo to a romantic horse drawn carriage.
The Marriot is a beautiful hotel with a rotating restaurant and the top with a pretty good 360 degree veiw of Manhattan, the food is fantastic and it is one of the premiere places to eat in the city.
The staff was great and the hotel has many services ranging from (2) starbucks, a kiosk to buy Broadway Show tickets, giftshops, meeting halls, banquet rooms, bars, lounge and food. There is even a Sushi Bar!
Unique Quality: The rotating restaurant was my favorite. The food is great, reasonable priced and you get a great veiw.
I have stayed here numerous times. It is dependable as well as safe. Very helpful staff.
Unique Quality: The location on Time Square is terrific for business or vacation. The bar off the lobby offers great views of the Square.
Directions: Time Square
The Marriott Marquis is a great hotel for any first time traveler to the city. Centrally located in Times Square, this hotel is within walking distance to most theaters and many attractions- which saves money on cab and subway fare.
The rooms, surprisingly quite large, have recently been renovated. The views of Times Square are also great.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone on their first trip to the city, or here on business. However, I feel that since Times Square is so touristy, branching out and staying in one of the other neighborhoods would be better for a person's second or third trip to the city. However, this is still a great hotel!
Unique Quality: Even if you don't stay at this hotel, The View restaurant is a MUST! While the food is nothing to brag about, the views from this restaurant, perched on the 49th floor, are spectacular. The service was fast and friendly as well.
Directions: Right in the heart of Times Square
Skyview Restaurant . Only revolving restaurant in NY. Spectacular 360-degree views while dining
Unique Quality: High-speed internet access
ViewLounge erfect place over looking Times Square
Directions: Can't miss it right on Broadway
I stayed at the Marriott Marquis during May of 2003. The rooms were quite standard issue for Marriott, which translates to superior comfort and cleanliness. It is conveniently located at Times Square which means the rest of the city is accessible from this point via subway, via cab, or via foot. From the outside and the inside, it looks fabulous. If you have the money, be sure to stay!
Unique Quality: It's location is hard to beat in New York but very expensive! Also the rotating restaurant at the top is very nice.
Directions: Time Square
Worth the money, nice rooms and great service, central location
Unique Quality: The inner court yard goes up 400 feet with futuristic elevators going up and down in the center.
The Marriott Marquis in Times Square - if you can afford it.
Around $200 a night, as last I checked.
Unique Quality: Lights, lights, lights. All the excitement of Times Square and Broadway. But step inside your room, and all the noise can just fade away. Expensive, but staying in this hotel is a wonderful, quintessential New York experience.
Be sure to splurge and visit 'The View' Restaurant/Lounge on the top of the hotel - a rotating restaurant that overlooks all of the city. Be sure to make a reservation as soon as you check into the hotel.
Directions: Right in the heart of the theatre district and Times Square - between 46th and 47th Streets.
The Mariott Marquis - Times Square
$300 per room per night
Unique Quality: Fantastic location and an amazing atrium inside
Is the rotating lounge still open? Is it worth a visit for a couple of drinks?
I've only been there once, but it's really a fun experience. I think it's probably still open. The views are very nice.
