An oasis in a rumbling city
by Maline
New York City is such a hectic city so after walking around for a couple of hours it's wonderful to go to Central Park and enjoy the green trees, the ponds, looking at people relaxing and doing sports, maybe enjoy a good baseball game among friends. You should stay clear of the park after dusk though, some creepy peolple can lurk around in the bushes!

If you are in NYC in the winter, especially around Christmas, you have to ice skate at Rockefeller Center. Seeing 'Rent' at the Nederlander Theater. Got tickets the day of the show at the box office because someone had cancelled.

we liked walking around n/y at night, as it was christmas the lights and the shops were wonderful, the restaurant we liked was lanagans somewhere of broadway, a bit pricey but the service was great! the city has just got something that makes you want to go back, not because the people were that friendly, nobody takes no notice of you they just getting on with their lifes so you get no touristy hassle. seeing all the places you see on the films for yourself, going christmas shopping in Maceys and feeding the sqirrels in central park. travelling on the subway was fun although being english we still found it difficult to be understood
as I think new yorkers speak a different kind of english!
Quirky signs
by toonsarah
One of the things we really enjoyed in New York was spotting the quirky and humorous signs dotted around the city. When New Yorkers need to issue an instruction or warning they seem to like to sugar the pill with a liberal dose of humour. Among those we spotted were several aimed at preventing dogs using the flowerbeds as toilets (for obvious reasons) and this popular one warning that children shouldn’t be allowed unaccompanied into a shop – how much pleasanter than a simple “don’t” this is!
