Wonderful Hotel

My friend and I were so pleased with the room and wonderful staff. We were surprised at how large the rooms were. We even had a little refrigerator and microwave oven, which came in handy because of all the leftover food we had. The continental breakfast is now $4.00 per person, but still very cheap compared to the restaurants. We appreciated the location: close to Central Park, 2 subway lines, Times Square and City Lights Tour bus stops. I will definitely return to this hotel !!

Good Budget Hotel in New York

Having stayed at The Salisbury, I can highly recommend it. The rooms are big by New York standards plus it has a continental breakfast for $3, is 2 blocks away from Central Park, within easy walking distance of Times Square and has a subway station at each end of the block. The area it is in is also very nice - Fifth Avenue shops like Tiffany, Bergdorf Goodman and Abercrombie & Fitch are 5 minutes walk away and Carnegie Hall is just across the street.

Unique Quality: Large rooms.
Great location.

Large, clean rooms!

This hotel is conveniently located, as I'm sure you have read so far. The rooms are huge; I was in a suite. Great big windows, which can be opened, kinda scary. Tall ceilings. BUT I was itching a lot in the mornings. I was sleeping on the sofa pull out.. but I just assumed it was the soap. Who knows.. BUT - a great stay none the less.

Unique Quality: I like the oldness of the rooms; adds character. Great location.

Great Location

My husband & I recently spent a long weekend in NY. Being the family travel arranger, I researched on the internet & found this offering on Expedia.ca . My husband had never been to NYC and I haven't been there for 20 years, so we had to depend on opinions like these. The price was right (well not cheap--but cheaper than most of the others) and the reviews were encouraging. Well, we were not disappointed. In fact it was better than expected. We had a regular queen room (not a sutie) and the room was twice as large as the Sheraton room where I stayed 20 years ago. The rooms are clean, and the service is polite and satisfactory. They offer the usual soaps, shampoo & things, including a little shoe cleaner and sewing kit. (Don't take this for granted - once stayed at a 4-star in Massachusetts and had to go for a drive to buy shampoo). They location is the best- across the street from Carnagie Hall, two subway stations within a block and others nearby, two blocks from Central Park South, and maybe a 10 minute walk to Times Square. Also close the MOMA and walkable or very close to other museums.

Unique Quality: The offer a "continental" breakfast buffet for $3 which was adequate for us. If you need more than toast, sweet roll or cereal and coffee in the morning, about two blocks around the corner from the hotel are the world-famous Carnagie Deli and Stage Deli. Warning-unless you have the suite with a fridge in your room, order one sandwich for 2 people and share. these are huge portions. If you expect to rent X rated films in your room, this is not the hotel for you as this hotel is owned by the Baptist Church next door and they are not offered. But with so much to do in New York, you won't miss them. Bottom line: It is a clean, non-frills hotel, reasonably price for midtown New York, in a central area near to everything. I recommend it .

A decent perfectly located hotel

The Salisbury is conveniently located across from Carnegie Hall and close to the Fifth Avenue shopping district and the Central Park.

The Salisbury was originally designed as a suite hotel so the standard rooms are quite ample.

I chose the Salisbury because of its location and found its quality and service acceptable but not outstanding.

good place to stay

Changed hotels from Astor on the Park to the Salisbury. It was a dream compared to where we had been at not much extra cost. Nice rooms with small kitchen.

Well Situated Comfortable Hotel In New York

The Salisbury Hotel is well located on West 57th Street within easy reach of all the shopping and museums that are located in midtown Manhattan. The rooms are quite large if showing some age when I visited. The bathrooms plumbing ran well but was exposed which was hardly pretty. Unfortunately the hotel's rates like all those in New York are expensive for what you get. In fact they have double since I visited. Still I was quite pleased with the Salisbury

Unique Quality: The restaurant on the ground floor offered huge breakfasts. The rooms were large enough to play basketball in. The neighborhood is quite safe at night. Overall the hotel, which prides itself for being excellent for both business client and families, live up to that claim.

More about Salisbury Hotel

good position

by TripAdvisor Member electro

The Salisbury was in a good location. Times Square was within easy walking distance and a couple of pizza places and the Hard Rock Cafe were in the same block and a Starbucks across the road which made it easy to get a late night snack or coffee after touring all day. The rooms were of a good size and comfortable but if your room overlooked the street it was very noisy but we didn't really care because the New York street scene was interesting especially after it snowed. The reception staff weren't that nice. Not very helpful. The hotel offers a breakfast for $3.00 per adult (but they still charged for our teenage children). The staff in the breakfast room were helpful.

Exceptional Hotel/Great Location

by TripAdvisor Member AndreMcBride

I stayed at the Salisbury this past Saturday. I have stayed in several Hotels in the city and by far this has been the best for the money.

I was able to check in at 11:00 AM when I arrived, They had no difficulties finding my internet reservation (it didn't hurt that I called the night before). The location was ideal (Near Carbigie Hall and near several train stations).

All in all a very nice clean hotel.

Not sure about the party size but we stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel the address is 51st or 53rd and Lexington. It was in a very handy as the Underground stop on that corner also it was within walking distance short walk to the Rockerfeller Centre , Times Square, United Nations, Central Park Empire State building and Central station as with a lot of New York the accommadation is more expensive than other big cities eg LA San Francisco and LAs Vegas.
