Just booked tickets to visit the Ground Zero museum workshop!

by KellyNY

Hi All,
Have just purchased 2 tickets for my partner and I to have a 2 hour tour/visit to the 'ground Zero museum workshop'
It is a place we would like to visit to pay our respects and after reading all the reviews on trip advisor as being 'a do not miss' opportunity, I really wanted to book. Have booked via their website (Zerve sell the tickets)
After my post a few days back asking about booking before hand, this is the only place we have booked beforehand as it is highly recommended as it sells out fast!
We have decided to visit 'top of the rock' and maybe the ESB as and when, prob morning to avoid the long queues!

Anyone here visited the Ground Zero workshop? What did you think of it? and was it easy to find?? I have a good description of where it is via the tickets, but have read it is hard to find! Would a NYC taxi find it ok???

Thanks so much for all your advice, very appreciated!
Excuse the spelling, I am tired! lol

A NYC taxi could find a nat in a fly's nest.

I've visited the site a number of times to pay my respects to a friend and 85 other co-workers from floors 84 and 85. Just walking around the site and getting a photo of my friends name on the list of those that perished was enough for my stomach to stand.

It reminded me of walking through Dachau in Germany.

You might be interested to read the court judgment against Gary Suson, the photographer who created and runs the Ground Zero Museum Workshop. Mr. Suson sued the NY Post for libel when they reported that monies promised to WTC charities was never donated, and the museum workshop is strictly a for-profit operation.

Your time and emotional energy would be better spent by visiting St. Paul's Chapel, which maintains a moving exhibit:

Dear 10028,
Hi, thank you for that advice. I booked after reading nice reviews on trip advisor, but was then told by people on the forum there that it wasn't a good thing to do! But since they have been paid for, it seems silly not to go, but if I had known all of this prior, I would never have booked.
Yes we will be visiting the Chapel and other places of memorial. It will be lovely to pay my respects, yet so very sad at the same time.

Thanks again for all your advice.

somebody should be able to direct you there afterall it is a well known spot. We didn't go to this but we did go to the memorial in the winter gardens that american express had made for the employers that lost their lives on that day - it was incredibly moving and thought provoking - one of the security chaps can direct you as we found it hard to find.

With regards to NY taxis we found some of them didn't know where a lot of places were...make sure you have full addrss if you go anywhere - i had been in the city 3 days and could direct the taxi driver to the restaurant we wanted so just be careful - i don't think there is the 'knowledge' test or equivilent that london cabbies have to take

Finding restaurants, shops, attractions in NYC

by Bowsprit

Google Maps has a nifty little feature for finding what you need near where you are. If you know the address of a restaurant or hotel, you can submit it into maps.google.com and Google will present you with a great map. But if you look near the top of the page you will see a link that reads: ‘Find businesses’. Click on that. Google then asks: ‘Find what’. If you type ‘delis’, ‘convenience stores’, ‘restaurants’, ‘bars’,’ hardware stores’, ‘beauty salons’, whatever and etc, Google gives the responses in a list on the left and locates them on the map center panel. It’s my favorite feature on Google Maps and very helpful for locating restaurants, bars, shops, in New York City and other places in the world.

New York City is Awesome

by bambi1825

Everyone said to be careful when we went but I felt very safe there. The people that live in New York City are very friendly and also very helpful. The ones that are SO RUDE are the tourists. They push and shove and don't know the words excuse me. I got so much help from people in the subway when I didn't know which one to get on. The subway was great and we used it a lot the first time. I recommend walking as much as you can. We walked everywhere and saw so much. One thing that we were all dissappointed in was the Empire State Building. We had 2 kids with us and waited for hours to get in and then you have to keep waiting in line, You go up some floors an wait more. By the time you get out there it's just not worth it at all, then to get back down takes forever, we were SO disappointed and won't do that again. I loved shopping and just window shopping at everything. We ate at Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, and other small little cafes. Time Square is so awesome. I love New York City! We tried the Today Show and got in line at 5:30 am with 2 little kids, We got in and were pushed and shoved by people. Some lady pushed her daughter up in to us to try to get closer and it was just so uncomfortable. Eric LaStrata was there and I touched his arm and he shook my brother's hand. He is really hot! We then left because it was so uncomfortable. We went back to our hotel and put the Today Show on and there was the lady in front of us, they showed her a few times so we were upset, if we would have stayed we would have been on tv, oh well ;)

New York City Tip

My fondest memory in reflection is the time I was able to spend near the World Trade Centers. Being an Architect, I was completely astonished at the scale of these structures. September 11th was all that more real after experiencing the life of the buildings in person.

A NYC panoramic view

by Laura_Mexico

There are many impressive views of this interesting town, but I was utterly delighted when I reached the roof of the Metropolitan Museum and saw this wonderful view before my eyes... Both with Central Park and the buildings as one only landscape... I loved it!

New York's varied restaurants

by J.I.M

Whenever you're hungry in New York, remember that there are a huge variety of restaurants that provide food from all over the world. Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Thai, Brazillian, Indian - be sure to try out at least a few different culturally unique meals when in New York!
