by highlandlassie

I am planning a suprise trip to new york for my hubby (we are from canada) i have tixs for a giants game, on sunday nov 28.. we will arrive at noon on the friday before...so we only have half a day friday and all day saturday for new york city and want to make best useof ourtime. i have read through some forums and know i want to go to grand central and check out the whispering gallerie near the oyster bar. i would like to do the empire state building, and eat at jekyll and hydes. if there is time moma is of interest and definatly central park. the hotel we are staying at is hotel 41 at times square, which is at 206 W 41st street. i guess i am curoius which things are near each other, and if i am missing any good sights that should be must sees for my list. what would be the best order to see these things to waste the least time. thanks in advance...love this forum!!

Well, you can take the Times Square Shuttle (subway) to Grand Central (42nd and Park Ave) -- takes 5 minutes. Or you can walk up 42nd to Grand Central in about 15 minutes. The Empire State is on Fifth Avenue at 34th street -- you could walk there in 20- 25 minutes or take a 6 train to 33rd street and walk two blocks to Empire State. The wait to get to the top of the Empire State can be rather long...

There are two Jekyll and Hydes:

Jekyll and Hyde Club
1409 Avenue of the Americas
(between 57th St & 58th St)
New York, NY 10019
Neighborhood: Midtown

That's probably the one you are thinking of. That's near

The Museum of Modern Art
11 West 53 Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenue)
New York, NY 10019-5497

Central Park starts at 59th Street at Fifth or Sixth Ave.

Jekyll and Hyde Restaurant and Bar
91 7th Avenue South New York, NY 10014
212.989.7701 • 212.989.9060 (fax)
Located at 91 7th Avenue South between West 4th Street and Barrow Street
West Village

Good advice from Dino335

If you have time, catch the Staten Island ferry from lower Manhatten- its free, and you get to see the magnificent skyline of Manhatten. The trip is only a few hours return, and goes all day till late.

New York Pass

by seabreezer

Offers admission to many popular attractions. You can buy online and pick up at Planet Hollywood in Times Sq, or else purchase once you arrive. Saved us around $50 each and you don't have to carry large amounts of money to pay enterance fees, and very often you can skip the queue to enter attractions.

Hot Dogs in New York

by hundertmorgen

You see them everywhere: on every corner you find a hot dog stall! Great, I like it and it belongs to the city.

But how came the sausage into this town?
As it turns out, it is likely that the North American hot dog comes from a widespread common European sausage brought here by butchers of several nationalities. Also in doubt is who first served the dachshund sausage with a roll. One report says a German immigrant sold them, along with milk rolls and sauerkraut, from a push cart in New York City's Bowery during the 1860's.

Not really my fondest memory, but being a nut for urban architecture, can't help but be sad when I think back to the moment when I looked up from where this photo was taken and stared at the twins...

NY is a lovely state...upstate NY has Niagara Falls...a must see.

NYC downtown and nightlife are great. Also, heck out the museums, broadway, and historical sites like the UN building and the State of Liberty/Ellis Island.

Niagara Falls and Buffalo The falls are really beautiful and a wonder to see! I have seen them many times and they still take my breath away. A really fun thing to do is take a boat trip on ' The Maid of the Mist' It takes you right up to the falls but prepared to get get very wet! For more on Niagara Falls...visit my Buffalo page
