an excellent hotel in an excellent location

    by

This hotel just completed an over-all excellent stay in New York. The location is very central, walking distance to many tourist sights, and right next to several subway lines. The rooms are large, modern, extremely well decorated, spotlessly clean, and have luxurious en-suite bathrooms. Service is excellent.

We may not stay there next time, but only in order to sample a few other luxury hotels in the city. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Directions: West 51st Street and 7th Avenue, a 10 minute walk north to Central Park or a 10 minute walk south to Times Square.

More about The Michelangelo Hotel

The Michelangelo Hotel is for me.

We had never been to New York before & I just wanted a place to take my wife for the x-mas Holiday. When I researched all of NY Hotels I just kept coming back to The Michelangelo Hotel. It was the most marvelous experience & the staff was 100 plus to me. If I ever get the chance to return to NY I will be crazy not to stay @ Michelangelo's. Thank-You everyone associated with this fine Hotel, you made my x-mas surprise to my wife a blessing. May you & your staff continue to be everything you are & much more. Happy Holidays!

The Reviews were right. The Michelangelo is First rate

The Michelangelo Hotel was comfortable, with larger than expected rooms for a position so close to the action in the theatre district. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.

Loved the Michelangelo

I just got back from a wonderful trip to NY. The hotel was great - very elegant. Fast elevators - a piece of Baci Chocolate on your pillow every night placed during turn down service. Complimentary breakfast in the lobby each morning which included fresh cappaccino, espresso, muffins, fruit. The only negative was that my cell phone didn't work in my room. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Lovely hotel, but small room

by TripAdvisor Member tallahassee

I have long wanted to stay at the Michelangelo and finally did in October 2003. I loved the lobby and all the public spaces, but found our room a bit confining. It was nicely decorated, however, and the bathroom was beautiful (though small, too). I definitely appreciated the courteous staff and the lovely continental breakfast in the lobby!

Great Hotel Experience

My wife and I are newlyweds and this past Christmas we decided to take a Christmas trip to New York City instead of giving each other gifts.
This was our first time visiting NYC. We researched almost every website for reviews on hotels, as we are very picky about staying at hotels. We finally decided on the Michelangelo. What a wonderful place.
The staff was excellent and extremely friendly and knowlegable about the places to visit. Bell-Hop Henry is the Man. The hotel is very clean with comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. I was very impressed on the size of the room. We reserved our hotel based on a internet special for $195. Well worth it. The Hotel is smack in the middle of New York City.
Only one block from Radio City Music Hall and about 2 blocks to Time Square. The hotel is very quiet, as it sits off the main road. The continental breakfast is another plus. One tip, park your car yourself in the Michelangelo Parking Deck. Parking deck is about 2 blocks from hotel and is very secure and inexpensive. This hotel made our vacation a wonderful Holiday memory. NYC during Christmas is magnificant. We visited the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, saw the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, visited Ground Zero, shopped 5th Avenue, strolled Time Square, rode a carraige ride through Cental Park, and saw the Broadway play Urinetown (hilarious) in a three day visit. I highly recommend staying at The Michelangelo. Good Bless America

Great hotel but New York is noisy!

by TripAdvisor Member Diamond_Snowflake

The Michelangelo is truly a luxurious and unique hotel. From the delicious lobby with its separated seating areas, fresh flowers and relaxing ambience through the mirrored corridors to the huge perfectly-decorated rooms with marble bathrooms and baths-for-two. It's the nicest hotel I've stayed in and certainly the largest and best-furnished rooms. It's a place for those who don't want the same old look of a chain hotel.

My only warning is that if you're arriving with jetlag, the streets on the side of the hotel are extremely noisy all night, leaving you feeling less-than-refreshed and potentially spoiling your stay. The management were fantastic though - they moved both rooms to more expensive internally-facing rooms with no charge and this made all the difference. (I imagine that larger hotels with higher floors and double glazing would be best if you're really tired).

Breakfast in the lobby is a much more sophisticated experience than the typical restaurant buffets most hotels offer. Sipping a coffee on a plush sofa with hot pastries is a great way to wake up to the day.
(Just note that you can't take a coffee or pastry up to your fellow guests in their room - nearly every guest asked and were declined).

I would recommend this highly to anyone looking for a luxurious hotel that doesn't need to be pretentious to prove itself.

Exemplary service

Perfect location, outstanding service. Warm, comfortable lobby and lounge area. Grand room (one small window was the only negative). The Italian breakfast could use an upgrade. How about some juice and better pastry/breads?

worth the praise - civilised oasis

by TripAdvisor Member Surprising

After spending an inordinate amount of time researching hotels - surfing all the sites, reading reviews - we plumped for the Michelangelo.Initially, we'd been tempted by the fashionable boutique hotels (Schrager pzazz etc) but reckoned they were more a case of style over substance. The Michelangelo was fab. Whilst it was just somewhere to crash, it met all the requisites: class location, calm & civilised reception, very elegant & spacious room/bathroom & good service. In other words a proper hotel, that isn't just a fad.NYC was great - our first visit. There's enough buzz & vibrancy in the city, without trying to recreate it in the hotel. We partied so hard, that we missed the freebie breakfast both days...though that was never really an incentive for booking.Booked through discount web site, was given a room upgrade and laughed at the strength of sterling versus the plummeting dollar.Enjoy.

A little disappointing...

by A TripAdvisor Member

Staid in this hotel the weekend of March 12, 2004. Although the lobby is beautiful and the staff friendly enough, we were disappointed in the appointments of the room. We staid in a junior suite which was very large with 2 king beds and plenty of room - however, the bathroom was one of the worst designs I've seen - no decent light at all, only one small sink, etc, the beds were VERY uncomfortable, and our view was of piled up rubbish and construction materials on a scaffold outside our window. As I said, service was good - but not exceptional. The hotel restaurant was very good but they played loud rock music throughout so although on decor they tried to create an ambiance - the music killed it. All in all had expected a higher degree of service and luxury based on what I'd read. We stayed at the Westin a few months ago and for $100 less per night had more comfortable beds and the equal amount of service and luxury.
