The New York Loft Hostel + Hotel

by sopra_ti

Hi.

I'm planning a trip to New York of 6 or 7 days in February 2010. I'll be traveling with my girlfriend and we are thinking on staying in the The New York Loft Hostel + Hotel.
Unfortunately I can't find any reviews on this Hostel.

Can you help me out?

This will be my first time on New York and also on the United States of America so any tips and advises are welcome.

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Pedro

The place in Williamsburg? I list it on my homepage, complete with street address and website. I believe it's simply nylofthostel.com

The address of the The New York Loft Hostel + Hotel is 249 Varet St., Brooklyn, NY, 11206, New York.

It's the same?

Thanks...

yes (718) 336-1531. It's on my homepage, cleverly titled, "Good Bed is Hard to Find." I'm such a clever guy.

Thanks for your help.
The Hostel seems very friendly and I might book 7 nights.

What's the best airport to arrive in New York?

Thanks!

If you are staying at this hostel, then do not come into Newark. Come into JFK and take a cab to the hostel.

Well, I'm just waiting for the Hostel to answer to some of my doubts. As soon as they reply, I will make the booking.

It's possible that it will be between the 8th and the 16th of February.

Of course, you do know that is a VERY cold time of year here in New York. By the way, what does "sopra ti" mean? Does it mean "above you," or "about yourself"?

"sopra_ti" in english means "only for you".

I would love to go during christmas to see the lights.
If it snows during my stay in New York would be wonderful!!!

=)

What advises can you give me?

Thanks!

This hostel is actually more like in Bushwick than Williamsburg

I wish it is Williamsburg but I know it is not because my family has a warehouse there within blocks.

It is a former light-industrial warehouse area turning into loft residential buildings, with a public housing project near there.

It is very near to Manhattan through subway service, but at night, if you are women and not used to the area, I advice you do not come back alone to the hostel alone late.

Greenwich Village/SoHo - places to stay

by JK2000

Hi, I'm coming to New York in July and I've been trying to find somewhere reasonable to stay around the Greenwich Village/SoHo areas. If anyone's stayed in or knows the following places, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what they're like

- Incentra Village House B&B in Greenwich Village (Stonewall Room)
- Room in Soho Loft(in Soho - in case you didn't pick that up already!)
- A Garden in Chelsea
- West Eleventh Apartments (El Greco Room) in Greenwich Village
- Hotel 17/Chelsea Inn/Larchmont Hotels

Any information/tips you can offer would be great - cheers!

A friend stayed in West Eleventh last year (although not the room mentioned) and said it was lovely. The owners can appear a bit abrupt apparently, but are very nice. Original paintings in rooms, and if by chance you had friends in NYC (which she does), you're not allowed to have them visit you in the room.

Thanks Karen, that's really helpful
