Posh in NYC

Ok, I've never stayed here either, but it being one of the most famous hotels in the world, I don't think you'll have a bad night.

Unique Quality: The orignial Waldorf-Astoria hotel was at the site of the Empire State Building. It started as family fued. It started as two seperate hotels next door to each other: the Waldorf Hotel owned by William Waldorf Astor and Astoria Hotel owned by Catherine Astor. The two hotels were later joined and connected by a bridge.

When the Empire State Building scheduled to be built, the hotel, now one, moved uptown.

Waldorf Astoria

This hotel is beautiful with a long history of famous guests, movies being shot here at the hotel and numerous other events. The hotel is situated on 50th and park avenue and lexington avenues, so its in an excellent location, near Rockefeller Center and many other attractions. Room was comfortable and service was excellent in all areas. This hotel is a bit pricey , but the rooms are comfortable, tastefully decorated and safe and secure.

Unique Quality: Service is top notch. Beautiful lobby and restaurants

Waldorf

Again, I don't have first hand experience of staying here but I'm pretty sure it's good.

Unique Quality: Every US President since 1931 has stayed here - not that this makes it good either but if it's good enough for them.....

Walldorf Astoria, if you can...

Walldorf Astoria, if you can afford a room here. Still, New York offers anything from a cardboard box in an alley to the presidential suite in the above mentioned hotel. Try however to stay at Manhattan if you mainly visit this centre of New York city. The traffic to the island is to dense and therefor you will loose precious hours that can be better spend.

New York's fanciest hotel.

The Waldorf Astoria, part of the Hilton Hotels.
I've never stayed here but be prepared to pay in excess of $200 USD per night. I have toured the lobby as well as enjoyed their banquet room. My company has their Christmas party here every year. The hotel staff is very corteous and professional and the place is kept in an exceptionally clean state. At some point, I will stay here, but at the time of this update, I am living a few minutes away, it doesn't make sense.

Unique Quality: This is one of the most acclaimed hotels in New York. It's featured in the movie, 'Coming to America.' Please note that this picture is off of their website.

If you can afford it , Waldorf...

If you can afford it , Waldorf Astoria- not only for the quality and glamour associated with this hotel, but it's history. ( many famous people have stayed here ) However, there are about 100,000 hotel rooms in NYC ( the 5 boroughs ) The Edison, Plaza and Pierre are top hotels too, there is an adequate choice of budget accomodation from the big chains eg. Best Western also.

Waldorf Astoria, New York

by brianmayday50

I am going the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Saturday and would like people's views and experiences of staying there.

Is it expensive

Are the rooms good

What is it like at night there, entertainment wise?

I've stayed at the Waldorf AStoria several times. While it is more expensive than your average US hotel, considering it's in NYC it's in line with a lot of the upper class hotels in Manhattan (depending on availibility, from $250 up). The size or style of the rooms runs the gamut. You might get a small room with a window looking out over the inside courtyard (no view). You might get a junior suite overlooking Park Ave. There's not a lot of entertainment inthe hotel proper, other than someone playing the piano in the foyer or at one of the bars. They have a piano in the front lobby that once belonged to Cole Porter! Staying at the Waldorf AStoria is all about the elegance and history of the 30's and 40's.

I work right next to it. I never stayed there but I pass the Building every day.

The hotel is close to Grand Central Station so there is no need to take a taxi. And there are many sites to see in walking distance.

IE Hemsley building, Rockefeller center, st Patrick cathedral.

Very expensive from what I understand but also one of the best. There are plenty of other hotels in the same area just not as well known so do your Homework.

Oh and if you like Beer Don’t miss a trip Down to South Street Sea port and go to Jeremy's Ale House. Great prices and big cups! Popular hang out for locals.

If in Midtown on the east side go to a bar called "Snafu" on a Thursday
