I was quite picky about which hostel to select before going to new york because I wanted a prime spot and a place that was quiet, comfortable and a decent price. Times Square Beds was absolutely perfect and althought I like to review several places for one city there was no reason to do this for New York. It was very easy to find and it suited my needs perfectly. Paul the Chinese owner is a sweet man that is very easy to get along with and his hostel feels like a private flat giving it a comfortable vibe. There are 12 beds total, 8 bunkbed style in one room (where I stayed) and 4 in another cramped room, go for the 8 because despite being next to a street the extra room is worth it (just bring ear plugs). There is one washroom for 12 people but I faced no major delays whatsoever and the travellers were all pretty relaxed about the situation. Overall, a great find and I will stay ther again. (PS a bed cost me about 40$ a night and sooo worth it due to the location).
Unique Quality: The owner is a super friendly guy and he has free internet, loads of books about NYC and sells water and coke at 50 cents a pop (cant beat that in NYC). You can even use the kitchen facilities.
Directions: Near Times Square
There are many Japanese travelars there since owners are Japanese. The place irself is quite clean, like home. If you want to hang out or find our Japanese friends, here would be right place for you... The location is also in TimesSquaire, so that everything is convinient with subway.
There is one internet access, so you can use whenever you want. It's free. Owner is friendly and he will help you if you need some information.
