Train or bus from nyc to niagra falls

by edcorsaro

My wife and I will be in NYC in Dec. Looking for info on a day trip to Niagra Falls. By bus or train. Is this possible? Thanks

Day trip by any method other than flying there would not be easy to do, as it is a fairly long trip.

By train, Niagra Falls to Penn Station in New York is about 9 hours, depending on the specific trip. There are about 4 trains per day in each direction that serve the Niagra Falls, NY station. The train that leaves Penn Station, NYC at 7:15 in the morning is timetabled to arrive at Niagra Falls, NY at 4:33 that afternoon.

If you decide to do it by train, the sooner you buy tickets the cheaper they will be. As the trains fill up the ticket prices also go up. December is a busy travel time on our train system.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't realize it was such a long trip...I am sure we will find plenty to do in Manhatten. Cheers

My pocket timetable tells me that it is 460 track miles (about 760 kilometers) between New York Penn Station and Niagra Falls Station. You might find a highway bus that would do it faster, as there are routes that don't take the roundabout way the railroad line does - but even going directly it is quite a long trip.

new york city buffalo is only an hour flight, a route served by several carriers including jet blue and us airways. of course one has to get to the airport early to check in and go thru security, etc etc. but there are multiple flights daily including evening flights so a round trip can be done, just not cheaply.

Too far for train or car to do day trip. By car, you're looking at 7 hours at least, heck, Montreal is only 6 hours away!

They have installed a webcam way up on the Empire State Building from which you can view miles around. The controls are intuitive and there is no software to install. Just point, click, pan and enjoy.

You can see a lot in one day

by pigletsmom

New York is so compact, that you can see many attractions in one day. Seperate New York into into just two areas, Uptown and Lower Manhattan, and tackle it that way. Lower Manhattan is not too far from Wall Street, and you can see both in one day. Soho, Chinatown, and Little Italy are all very close to one another and easy walking distance. Or you can visit, Wall Street, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty in one day, and visit Chinatown at night. Places tend to be just a short subway ride away or walking distance. Walk and explore, you will be fascinated by what you find.

Go in Christmas. It's the absolute best place to spend the holiday in. The white lights everywhere, snow, ice skating in Rockefellar plaza, and shopping everywhere. Oh and of course carriage rides through central park. You just can't beat it.

just don't hurry like everyone else, relax, enjoy the time you have, life is short trying to find my way from Manhattan to JFK airport, seems simple on the map but for me, complicated in physical terms. Wrong turn, oops, wrong turn again, backtrack, wrong turn on the back track, end up in Jersey, aw man, stop at a gas station person, know....The Soveireign, the LORD is so good to me the way that I am, and i'm very thankful for being able to go this far from my home...

The Asphalt jungle

by DanielF

For me, skyscrapers are what make NYC so unique and exciting. They come in all forms and shapes: kitsch, elegant, vulgar, famous, austere, luxurious, Neo-Gothic, Neo-Italian-Renaissance, Art-Deco, Neo-Flemish, Liberty style... but it is that high density and agglomeration that transforms the city into a real asphalt jungle that captivated me.
