The Marriot is right there and a good deal most of the time----

cheaper than the Hilton, and better bed!

I stayed at the econo lodge and it was cheap and free breakfast at a nice restaurant and free shuttle to/from the airport. Around $60 US per night.

I stayed at the Econolodge about a year ago. Not the greatest room I ever stayed in but definitely cheap and did the trick. No problems.

yah, see my big thing is...is it bug ridden or not? this one wasn't. Clean but tired looking, but nice staff and really loved Perkins Restaurant next door (free breakie!). Shuttle was fast and convenient, no probs.

Marriot. Or stay in Jersey City downtown at Westin etc..it's only 15 minute car service for 25 dollars and at least you can walk around the waterfront and walk to a nice restaurant or use the PATH to shuttle to NYC for dinner.

Travel Tips for New York City

Walk-or get on a bus or subway

by BruceDunning

Tio get around extended parts of town, take a combination of bus and/or underground subway. The mode of transportation is what all the locals use to navigate to places. We hit the street walking for a lot, in order to see it from eye level. The busy environment and the ongoing struggle to keep it all going daily as a routine.

See a Broadway show

by JulesRules

Well, New York is Broadway... at least part of it. You cannot visit New York without seeing a show, either play (which I prefer) or musical. Ofcourse you can, but it's highly recommended, and highly expensive ;-)

I saw Salome in June 2003.

...take a Circle Line tour...

by Nolanspice

...take a Circle Line tour around the whole island. It's a relaxing, yet beautiful way to see the landscape of Manhattan Island from all sides. I have 3.

The first was within the first month after the Towers fell. The fondest memory was seeing every New Yorker doing all they can to help anyone who seemed like they needed it. Even though the City was still numb, there was a loving, more patient feeling in the air that was genuine. It was at that point that if anyone ever said anything bad about New Yorkers again, we're fighting. :)

#2: Every year I have a huge birthday party at this one little place in Soho. My crowd of people come in and we basically take over. It's also a great way for me to see a lot of people I haven't seen in months before.

#3: The AIDS Walks that happen every year. This year is the 17th year of the event and my 13th walk. It's an exhausting 10K walk but the rush when it's over is amazing!

There is plenty of museums of course! The museum of natural history is so big, you can get lost easily! :)

The Empire State Building is a classic, plus you get an incredible view of the city!

A good thing to do is to take a city tour with a guide.

Just walk around, there is so much to see: FAO Schwarz (great toy store), Trump Tower, Time Square, Wall Street etc...

Of Course there is the statue of liberty!!

Visit The Empire State Building. It is one of the great attractions of New York. It provides an excellend view of the city--it is really worth taking the time out of your busy schedule (because New York is VERY busy)--to go all the way up to the top and admire the view.
