Summer in the City
"You gotta look sharp!"
Went back to NYC recently. Original reason for the trip was to see Joe Jackson. However, since my friend Bryan has moved there recently, Heather joined and I stayed for the weekend.
"Little landmark, big sculpture"
When you come from NY originally, you don't feel the need to capture all the typical landmarks in photos. However, sometimes it's fun to encapsulate one within what I like to refer to as the giant red metallic calamari.
"Enjoying the view"
We had a really nice view from our hotel, The W Court on 38th and Lexington. We had a court facing room which provided us with peace and quiet for our delicate slumbering stages....
"Paying respect"
Although I've been to NYC several times since 9/11, I hadn't been to Ground Zero since a few months after it occurred. At that time, some of the surviving walls were still there and the smell of burning was still in the air. I didn't take any pictures of that. Too morbid!
We were actually in this part of town to go shopping at Century 21, a fabulous discount store. I don't think we realized that it was across here.
"And onto Battery Park..."
Here's the orb that was once in the courtyard of the World Trade Center. It now lives in Battery Park.
"Pit Bull Gargoyle?"
Noticed this great Flemish style building after dinner one night, right near our hotel. Had to go back the next day and get it's picture. The pitbull gargoyle looked even freakier in the dark and the building itself is a good reminder of how New York was once New Amsterdam.
"Putting the "Murray" into Murray Hill"
I remember noticing this courtyard before the Flemish pittbull building. While I was photographing the dog, a very friendly local woman told us that this was the courtyard that belonged to the Murray family that the neighborhood was named after.
You really DO learn something new every day!
