Budget Hotels/Motels in Niagara Falls

Hello,

We are travelling to Niagara Falls (US Side) and need suggestions on budget hotel/motel around Niagara. We have earlier stayed in Holiday Inn close to falls but this time we are on a tight budget.
OK to stay a couple of miles away (as we will be driving). Nothing fancy, just clean rooms and no bugs (from whatever review I see bugs is a major problem in many hotel)

If I remember correctly there's an Econo Lodge within easy walking distance of the falls on the US side. I haven't stayed there but the chain is usually pretty good, as you request, nothing fancy just good clean simple rooms. www.choicehotels.com

Alternatively if you don't mind a bit of a drive you'll find quite good quality hotels at reasonable prices in Buffalo - I got a rather plush suite there a couple of years ago for less than $80 a night - . Buffalo is a fun city and only a twenty minute drive to the falls

Been there, done that. Since you will be driving, I would stay an hour outside Niagara, Buffalo area. Do carry your membership card, AAA, AARP, etc., sometimes they really help. We stayed in Days Inn the last time we drove there, but I dont remember the Exit we took. Almost all exits wil have a range of economy to moderate-rate motels, if you reach the motels before 8.00 PM chances are you will be able to take your pick and check the rooms out.

All of the best views and major points of interest on the American side of Niagara Falls are contained within the Niagara Falls State park. I was interested to learn that Niagara Falls is America's oldest state park, yet for some reason I could not find it listed in the Virtual Tourist database.

Niagara Falls State Park is a fascinating place, with a rich history. Among the attractions you will find here are:

Observation Tower
Maid of the Mist Boat Rides
Cave of the Winds
Nikola Tesla Memorial
Great Lakes Garden
Niagara Gorge Discovery Center
Aquarium of Niagara

see the Falls, of course. Why else would you come here? If you can, take out the time for a helicopter ride or a boat trip on the Maid of the Mist to see the falls close up. If you're pressed for time, at least go up the watchtower for a view across the falls.
And don't forget to visit other VT-members' pages on Niagara Falls for lots more pretty pictures!

Although the Niagara Falls I am referring to is on the Canadian side of the border (there is no Niagara Falls, Canada option) the info is pretty much the same. I've lived most of my life 15 minutes away from the falls, and so for me they're not very exciting anymore. But nonetheless, if you're in the area definitely come check them out! (I wouldn't recommend it for your honeymoon though)

Sales Tax in Niagara Falls!

SALES TAXES: Sales tax vary somewhat around the region wherein Ontario has a 8% Provincial Sales Tax + 7% GST (both of which international/US visitors can get rebated on purchases of goods) and in Niagara Falls, NY Side the local sales tax is 8.25%.

Stores stay open until 6:00 p.m. in most parts of Niagara. Many city and suburban stores are open until 9:00 p.m. at night for two, three or five weeknights.

Take your bikes!

We would suggest taking your own bikes and LOCKS! You can cover a lot more ground on a bike and see much more in a shorter period of time than walking thats for sure. We did not see any place to rent bikes on the USA side nor did we see any bike racks. Would suggest locking them up to a tree or some thing. We were also told that bikes can and will get stolen if they are not locked up! I even kept them locked up in the bed of my truck with no issue.
