Falling Leaves Crafts Shows
by davecallahan
In September and October, for four or five Saturdays during those months, the craft guilds of the Herkimer County have a show of local and state talent in various art forms. The handcrafted items are judged for value and some items are put on sale. You can see all the crafts and talk to the budding artisans. Two people from the Rochester, NY (my home city) area have been at these events in the past.
The venue is the Park Avenue Building and the time is 10am to 4pm. There is a fee of $2 (which goes to a local charity) to gain admission and then you can spend as little or as much as you wish on the items for sale. The art forms include fabrics (like quilts), jewelry, glass pieces, wood-working, paintings and sculptures, metal art forms, handmade musical instruments.
To find out which Saturdays this year will be the ones on which the craft show occurs, use the website below and go to the calendar sections of September and October.

something warm
by davecallahan
Even in the middle of the summer when nearby temperatures are in the 80s, the mountain areas near the lakes can still get chilly in the late evening and early morning hours.
So if you like taking an early walk, be sure to bring along a sweater or light jacket. You can always tie it around your waist after you have had your morning warmup.
