Travel Tips for Penn Yan
A Nice Little Town to Visit
by Colleen13
Penn Yan is a nice little town located on the tip of a GREAT little lake. Sure, there's not much in the way of nightlife or shopping [beyond crafts and knick-knacks], but it's cheap and close to a lot of great excursions.
With the large mennonite community you often see horse-and-buggys about. As well as traditionally dressed mennonites bicycling about. And it's charm comes mostly from the beautiful scenery. The views from the hills surrounding the lake are incredible.
Fox Run Vineyards

If you and a partner have $50 each and a few hours of time, then take the VIP tour at Fox Run.
You are treated to a private and comprehensive winery tour to include the grounds, the buildings and all the contents. The owner and/or winemakers will personally answer questions and describe the vineyard history and the process of wine making.
You will then participate in a private wine tasting of several wines that are still in barrels and have not been bottled and released to the public. From there you will go on to taste any of the other wines available in the barrel room. A cheese plate is provided to help clear the palate.
It is a once in a lifetime experience that you will not regret.
