HERE'S a map of the general...

HERE'S a map of the general area...ROCHESTER is halfway between Buffalo and Syracuse Lake Ontario... I know many of the VT people are from overseas..so I hope this helps;-)
Rochester isnt exactly a tourist destination but there are many nice things to do and see in Rochester..Sports-wise there are no NHL/NFL/NBA major sports there...the Redwings(baseball), Amerks(hockey) and the soccer and lacrosse teams are all farm teams of major frachises elsewhere. Most people root for the Buffalo Bills 90 miles away. Its not all Rochesters fault as sports have never been a big industry in upstate New York,,,for example up untill recently there were only TWO division 1 university football teams in the entire state: Syracuse University and SUNY Buffalo. California with a similar population has 23 division 1 football teams. So Upstate New York has its sports limitations. The good news is most of the good stuff here has little to do with sports franchises and has to do with the city and the surrounding area.
I will not unmention summer,...

I will not unmention summer, but you know what can be done in this season - fishing, biking, rollerblading, sailing, golfing, clubbing, picknicking, go-karting, shopping, last but not least relaxing :) Have fun.
Garth Fagan Dancers
by AlbuqRay
Rochester is the home of the Garth Fagan Dancers. He no longer dances himself but he has a wonderful modern dance troupe. Garth Fagan was also the choregrapher for The Lion King and won a Tony in 1998.
Greek Festival
by davecallahan
The first weekend in June is the Rochester Greek Festival.
Greek people, Greek food, Greek music, Greek dancing, Greek clothing and games.
There are several stages setup for live entertainment, both ethnic and traditional. There are midway rides and a "kids village" with games for the kids.
It runs for four days (usually Thursday to Sunday) and is kept on schedule regardless of the weather.
Parking can be a problem, so see the suggestions at the website listed below
To get there:
the parking area and open lot at 962 East Avenue.

Pack rainwear and a parka. Very few days are as nice as this picture;-) This is a shot of CHARLOTTE PIER jutting out into Lake Ontario. Despite some tough economic challanges , the Flower City has a many things of that are sure to make you like the place: Highland Park , Xerox , Genesee Vally Park , Don and Bobs , Seabreeze, Mendon Ponds , Nicks Hots and Potatos , U of R , MCC , Monroe High School , Abbotts Custard , Cobbs Hill , Swillburg(my old nieghborhood) , Campi's, Genesee Beer and white hots.
Despite having 7+ feet of snow annually and possibly the worst weather in America, Rochester somehow marches briskly on. You have to be tough to live in Rochester.
Now go to my Florida pages to get warm and happy.
