Rochester Airport to Niagra Falls

by OiKnow

Later this month I have a morning free and I am looking for a way to get from the airport in Rochester to Niagra Falls for a quick look and back to the airport by around noon. I am looking for any suggestions, a short guided tour, taxi, rent a car? What is my best option. I'll only have 3-4 hours to take a quick look and be back in time to catch my flight home.

Thanks,

David

It's a 1.5 hour drive from ROC to Niagara Falls (87 miles). Buffalo is much closer if you can use that airport instead. I hope you get to see it!

Hmmm.... you're cutting it really close. The previous poster said 1.5 hours but I'd say it was more like 2. And depending on weather (heavy rains/thunderstorms) or possible accidents, rush hour, etc. you could have an even rougher time of it. I wouldn't recommend this if you want to be back by noon.

Rochester isn't a common connection for airlines. Are you just looking for something to do before you go to the airport? If so, I would suggest you take a cab to the High Falls area where there's some fun things to do and even some (much smaller) falls to see.

Travel Tips for Rochester

Sector 5

by davecallahan

The city of Rochester is delineated into 10 individual political/social units called sectors.

Sector five is primarily the land surrounded by I-490, called the Inner Loop. In this area you will find many of the popular retail businesses and the new upscale city dwellers in historic Corn Hill District. East End is a popular cultural district with a lot of night life as well as the famed Eastman Theatre. Rochester Downtown Development Corporation has injected about 250 million dollars into the upgrade to this area in the last five years.
The old War Memorial ampitheater where many sports events have taken place has had a name change and a complete face-lift (BCBS Arena). It still is the most popular entertainment center in the city.

The whole area is a juxtapositioned island of new wealth amidst a surrounding sea of declining areas. Only the future will tell how long and strong this sector will last.

Eat a Nick Tahou's Garbage Plate.(This should probably be under Warnings and Dangers!). This is a famous place in Western New York. Nick Tahou's is located at 320 W. Main St. Some of the plates you can get are Cheesburger, Delmonico Steaks, Italion Sausage, and Hot Dog platters. Added to this are large portions of Macaroni Salad, refried beans, and home fries. The topper is Hot Sauce.

Suburbs

by davecallahan

Besides the 10 sectors of the heart of Rochester, there are many suburbs that extend from the center of the city out towards the outlying rural areas. Each of the suburbs has something interesting to offer to tourists and you may want to investigate some of the possibilities.

Some of these suburbs of interest are:
Brighton: just south of Sector 7; bounded by I-490, I-390, I-590 and Mt. Hope Avenue

LPGA

by davecallahan

Wegmans SuperMarket sponsors the Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament in Rochester every year. It is six days of golfing with 2 days set aside for Pro-Am play to include Rochester vicinity amateurs. The rest of the schedule is set for the LPGA tournament with one rain day and one-half day of ceremonies.

The event is huge in Rochester and draws crowds every day and all the news media cover at least a half-hour each evening. Parking is usually a big issue and you should check the website for best procedures.

The Venue is normally the Locust Hill Country Club.
see the website below for this years schedule.
