The Batcheller Mansion that...

The Batcheller Mansion that was built in 1873 and was the first house patented in the US.It was built by George S. Batcheller, a lawyer, diplomat, and a Brigadier General in the Civil War. He only lived in it two years and was on his way home when he died in Paris in 1908.
The city of Saratoa Springs almost had the building torn down in 1971 as it was in almost total disrepair.
A Mr. Eugene Turchi tried to restore this mansion and even made public appeals to have some of the stolen articles returned. Many fixtures were left in the driveway or sidewalk at night because of his requests.
Mr. Bruce Levensky purchased the mansion in the 80's for around $400,000.00. Years before the widow couldn't get $50,000.00 for it.
Now restored as a B&B (nine units) it is the place to stay while enjoying a Saratoga visit. Check out the Diamond Jim Brady room.
$100.00 to $200.00 in the off season. Durning racing (August) the prices double to about $200.00 to $400.00 +-.
