Great Place To Live
"Smithtown"
This is my home town. It's a fairly large town with a small town feel in Suffolk County on Long Island. It's got a lot of rich history. The St. James general store (one of the things to see on LI) is in St. James, but part of the town of Smithtown, that's about our only tourist spot. Great place to live, ridiculously high taxes. It's the perfect spot between NYC and the hamptons.
"origins"
legend has it that smithtown was aquired when the indians that lived here told Mr. Smith that he could have as much land as he could ride around on his bull "whisper" in one day. I think factually he just bought it from some guy.
"beautiful scenery"
Smithtown has its own river, the Nissequogue river, which runs through it. Many people enjoy boating into the sound, or canoeing down the river. Along with being in close proximity to many beaches on the North and South Shores (my favorite is Robert Moses), Smithtown has its own beaches. This is a picture of Short Beach.
