by BeverlyTyler about Three Village Inn

PICTURED: THE THREE VILLAGE INN HAS A NUMBER OF ROOMS FOR PRIVATE PARTIES SUCH AS THIS ROOM WHICH SHOWS BREAKFAST BEING SERVED TO PEOPLE ATTENDING THE THREE VILLAGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S CANDLELIGHT HOUSE TOUR IN THE THREE VILLAGES. HELD THE FIRST WEEKEND IN DECEMBER EACH YEAR.

I have three favorites:
* The Country Kitchen in Setauket - a simple family restaurant with good food and very reasonable prices.
* The Three Village Inn in Stony Brook - good food, good atmosphere, pleasant surroundings and a historic building as well. Expensive, but well-worth it. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings there is a piano playing old favorites and requests in the Sand Bar. Bob is my favorite on the piano here, he plays on Saturday nights. This is an 18th century converted farmhouse and there is a fire place in the Sand Bar, as well as in the reception room.
* The Elk's Grill in Port Jefferson. A pleasant, moderately priced restaurant with a pub-like atmosphere with good food and drink (imported & domestic beers on tap). There is a piano near the bar and every Thursday and Sunday evenings, Wally Alesi plays show tunes, jazz, dixieland, old favorites or anything you want to hear or sing along with. Wally can play anything and in any style you want. The most fantastic piano player I've ever heard. You can sit at the bar and partake of the bar menu or sit in the spacious restaurant looking out toward Port Jefferson Harbor.
Country Kitchen - Family-style. very reasonable $
Three Village Inn - great atmosphere - Excellent food, service, speciality items and outstanding desserts $$$ - historic building that is also an inn - great piano bar.
The Elk's Grill - Great pub atmosphere - moderate $$ -Great beer - excellent food & service Country Kitchen - pancakes and most breakfast items
Three Village Inn - Breakfast is delightful, lunch is the best time to go. The menu changes every day. Dinner in the Sandbar, and especially their desserts.
The Elk's Grill - Hamburgers at the Bar.

The Three Village Inn in Stony Brook - good food, good atmosphere, pleasant surroundings and an historic building as well. Expensive, but well-worth it.
The special part of this restaurant is the Sand Bar. Here, on Friday, Saturday, and sunday nights a piano player entertains and gets diners to sing-along. There is good beer on tap at the bar and plenty of atmosphere with the two old fireplaces, the Revolutionary War flags, and the bulls-eye glass windows which were saved from the Setauket mill when it was demolished in 1936. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. Be sure to explore the rooms just off the Sand Bar which include beautiful paintings as well as the ship model of the 'Daisy,' an hermaphrodite brig built in Setauket in 1872 which sailed on a year-long whaling voyage to Antarctica in 1912-13. Their Yankee Pot Roast is a special treat and all of their seafood is wonderful. The menu is new every day. For dessert try the trifle or the Apple Crisp. PICTURE:SPECIAL BREAKFAST BUFFET

PHOTO: GAMECOCK COTTAGE AT WEST MEADOW BEACH ALONG THE ENTRANCE TO STONY BROOK CREEK. Any walk around Stony Brook should include the harbor area behind the historic Three Village Inn. This area has some beautiful views and many of the houses, converted from summer cottages - many over 100 years old - are attractively done. The narrow winding roads in this area, just north of the Village Green are just made for walking in the early evening.
