Wilmington/Lake Placid/Americade 2006
We again took 3 days to go to Americade in Lake George this year. This time taking hubbys, friends and Uncles with us. The ride from Wilmington to Lake George is a long one but unfortunately we never plan far enough in advance (rooms book up a year ahead- people make their reservations when they are checking out for next years Americade/Bike Week). We however love Wilmington and love the campground/hotel we stay in there so the drive is sorta worth it for us.
Americade boasts that is the biggest motorcycle touring rally in the East. When we went in 2005 it was like one big party, the weather was perfect and there were people everywhere. this year the weather was bad at best, rain and cold, including snow flurries in Lake Placid at one point...YES SNOW FLURRIES IN JUNE!There wasnt as many people as last year and the cops were out in full force somewhat ruining the free for all attitude of last years rally. Its still a good time and there are bikes EVERYWHERE!!!!!Traffic however is horrendous and expect to drive around for 1/2 hour looking for a parking spot if you arent staying in Lake George
One of the things we did this time was go to Fort Ticonderoga which is at the Northern end of Lake George,in Ticonderoga. Technically the fort is on Lake Champlain. It was actually very very neat and we are all glad we did it.
