North Carolina Zoo

Asheboro is about halfway between North Carolina's two largest cities, Charlotte and Raleigh and makes an ideal day trip for those who enjoy a good zoo. Believe it or not, the NC Zoo is the country's largest in terms of acreage with over 500 acres of land in the Uwharrie Mountains of Asheboro. This by no means makes it the best zoo. The San Diego Zoo is still my all-time favorite, but North Carolina's is pretty impressive and with a new Australia exhibit set to open in the Spring of 2004, it will be even more impressive soon. The thing I like the most about this zoo is that it's spread out over a lot of land. It's a great place to just stroll around and enjoy a beautiful day.

"Not Too Far From Home"

Asheboro is actually about a half an hour's drive from Liberty. If we want to eat dinner out, watch a new film, or go shopping (basic stuff, nothing fancy) we have the options of Asheboro and Greensboro.

On one hand there is Asheboro:
low key, quiet, but no alcohol

On the other is Greensboro:
a bit more to do, fancier shops, and they have bars if you want that
sort of thing

But one thing that Asheboro has over Greensboro is...the NC Zoo!
Go figure! It has some very nice exhibits and it's good exercize at 5 miles on way walking.
