More about Sheraton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront Hotel
Great Location...That's about it!
by TripAdvisor Member mkennedy38
Our stay at the hotel was OK. It is very close to the beach, has a pier, and outside cafe which is a plus. The pool was OK but crowded at times. The restaurant was good. The buffet breakfast was sufficient.
However the rooms were not that great. The rooms were clean but nothing special. No microwave ect. The balconies are tiny with no chairs, the sliding door was all but impossible to open, and you can hear conversations in the next room.
It was not an awful experience but not a blast either. It just needs to liven up!
Wonderful as usual

After reading the reviews for this hotel I was afraid to stay here. But! We have stayed here twice in the last six months and have had a wonderful stay each time. The rooms were clean and the staff has always been very helpful and courteous. Each room has a wonderful view. We have visited in the winter so the indoor pool was a must for the kids and the price was very comparable to other hotels in the area. Every room in this hotel has a wonderful view. The balcony’s are a bit small but we just sit in the room with the door open and enjoy the sound of the ocean, the smell of the salt water, and the wonderful changing view. I was however disappointed that this last time there wasn't a continental breakfast as there was in the fall. We did eat in the hotel restaurant this last time; the buffet was out of this world. Yes it was a bit pricey at $23.95 per adult but you can’t argue that with all you can eat prime rib and crab legs. Each item had its own “flavor” and was excellent. (Most buffets everything taste the same). Our waitress Mary was terrific along with the rest of the staff. We were able to take our time and enjoy our meal, at no time did we feel rushed or unwelcome. I did read that this hotel is independently owned and is not I guess what you would say a “real” Sheraton, BUT if you want a clean hotel with friendly staff and your expectations aren’t for a “perfect” Sheraton, Give it a try!
Great getaway!

What a great getaway! We needed to be in Jacksonville for business, and decided to stay on the beach to mix business with pleasure, and we had a great weekend at the Sheraton! I realize that March is off-season, so we did get more choices, e.g. they asked us if we wanted a top floor or near the bottom. We stayed on the 8th floor with a wonderful ocean view. The room was considered "partial-view" but it was GREAT! The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was excellent (I usually prefer small-town diner breakfasts) but this one was very good! The pool area was nice and the hot tub/spa was the perfect toasty temperature after a long walk on the beach. I would definitely stay here again! (And don't miss "El Zarape" in Atlantic Beach for an authentic [yummy] mexican meal!)
Much ado about nothing

Way overpriced for quality........not very clean.......bad room freshener sprayed in hallways in an attempt to cover smells. Would not recommend........better values for the money on other areas of the island.
bad smell, dirty
by TripAdvisor Member tojim
We checked into the Hotel and were informed that it was a non smoking facitily and no smoking on the balconies. We over heard that been emphasized to the callers over the phone that their facility was 100% nonsmoking.
We went to the dining room only to be subjected to a hallway of smoke. Oh they informed us that they did allow smoking in their bar-diningroom. So now we know why they used a gag deodorant in and around the main desk to mask the bad smells. They room had wind blowing through the edges of the balcony doors, to only see the ceiling paint on the spackle ceiling that was lifting off to flutter.
The bathroom had black mold in and around the shower insert, and the caulking around the toilet was spread out over a inch from the edge toilet. We had to hold the handle down to flush, and the seat looked like it was saved from a budget motel throw away. The pool area outside smelled so bad that we washed our shoes off once we walked by it. A maintenance worker could be detected 75 feet away and between the double doors going outside, a person could smell his presence 20 minutes later, a shower was needed. There was no breakfast included, though they have a computer in the lobby to use. The elevators were been upgraded, so they only had one in operation during the visit. I would say this was one of the most unpleasent stays of our 4 week holidays. The money spent here would have gone to better uses if we had looked over the bridge.
Expected more from a Sheraton
by TripAdvisor Member westendkathy
We stayed here for a convention. To be fair to the Sheraton, I suspect my husband, who made the reservation, did not mention his Starwood Prefered Guest status, which may have made a difference (although I did think this would come up in their system, or that they would ask).
The hotel is still undergoing renovations, which took out one of the two guest elevators. We were told we could use the service evelators.
What we didn't know was that if the load in the elevators is unbalanced, such as when a cleaning cart is on board, the doors will NOT OPEN. It appeared the maid possibly knew this (when it became clear the doors would not open, she jumped up and down to try to trigger something, to no avail). She did not know where the emergency
phone was. Finally, we accessed the phone and were told that weight imbalance was the problem, so we (4 guests, dressed to go out) wrestled a cleaning cart and cart of dirty dishes (one glass broke in the process) and ourselves, trying to hit the "sweet spot". Much laughter and Spanish from other employees from the other side of the door. Finally, when we said that our efforts weren't working, they sent maintenance to open the doors.
That whole scenerio was wrong. Even non-English speaking staff could be taught to politely not let on enough guests to cause a door failure.
The beds, for being "Sheraton Sweet Sleep" beds, were nothing special. The pillows were ample, but the beds were average hotel beds, with the wrinkly mattress pad that, not anchored to anything, bunches and shifts.
Toiletries were sparse, low quality, and the bath soap was horrible--very drying. The toilet paper was of low enough quality to make it worthwhile to bring your own--it was really that bad.
The balcony was angled from 2 inches at one end to about 3 feet at the widest end--no chairs.
And warning to rooms ending in -17: this is right over the dumpsters, so in the mornings at about 7:00 am, they are emptied into trucks and are VERY loud.
No easy chairs in the double queen bedrooms, bare small refrigerator sitting against the wall, (to be fair, this is what is pictured on their website). This was not a comfortable room to spend much time in.
The night before leaving, we got a notice under our door that water would be turned off from 11:00 that night until 4:00 am the next day, and we would need to fill our bathtubs with water for flushing the toilets, which was aggravating, but apparently a town porblem, not the hotel.
The good parts: it is right on the beach. Even the side rooms do have
a decent view of the water. The beach was very nice. Rooms and common
areas were kept clean. Staff were nice (other than laughing over the stuck elevator). The indoor and outdoor pools appeared clean, with plenty of towels for guests to use. Towels and washclothes in the room were good quality and plentiful. There were safes in the rooms, good closet space, real hangers (not the "theft-proof" kind).
If we had asked for a Starwood member room, if we had looked at the room before bringing in our things and had rejected being over the dumpsters, and if the hotel had taken steps so guests did not get stuck in elevators, this would have been a higher rated stay. Being stuck in a hot elevator with stinky leftover food and hearing laughter about the "puerta" from the other side of the door really did leave a bad taste for our stay, though.
Nice hotel in the middle of nowhere...
by TripAdvisor Member 1AvidTraveler
My husband and I stayed here for a convention, and the only complaints we had was that everything in the hotel (i.e. the bar) closed really early, and there was absolutely nothing to do at the hotel or in the area other than swim or sunbathe. However, the beachfront location was nice, and it was really neat having the pier there. Our room was clean and the new bedding that Sheraton introduced was amazingly comfortable! That said, I wouldn't have been here had the convention not been here, and because there is nothing to do, I probably won't be going back. But if you have to stay here for some reason (convention or other) you can't get worse than a nice Sheraton right on the beach!
Great Fourth of July!

After checking this website, I had grave concerns about staying at this hotel but they were totally unfounded. They let us check in an hour early, quickly recitified a mistake in the reservation, and were helpful in directing us around the area. We received coupons for breakfast, a boat trip for fireworks and a casual cookout poolside. Our room was spotless, the staff attentive and pleasant. We found the beach to be uncrowded and clean,. Being able to leave our beach stuff in the car and just walking it over the dune stairs was great too. For a beach vacation, I couldn't fault it. GREAT SHOWER.
Nice Atlantic Beach Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member mbrebnor
This hotel is very nice. The price is not cheap, but I think it is worth the money. The rooms are clean but not spectacular. There is nothing memorable about this hotel, but I think it is OK for a worry free short vacation. I would prefer to stay here than in a motel on or off the beach.
