More about Holiday Inn Express Boone

Hanford has several hotels,...

by emankinen

Hanford has several hotels, motels, etc...but the nicest looking 'Inn' looks like a cluster of Victorian era buildings...it has its' own restaurant, too!-you can eat indoors or out..and it is centrally located to downtown..close to the Civic Auditorium you can be sure to see all of the important events by just walking a block down the road. Call ahead though...it is a popular place, kind of pricey, but it is one of the best places in town.

Best accommodations bets

by Ischyros

There are several "chain" hotels across the country. These are often your best bets at a clean room and good service. If they didn't offer these, they wouldn't stay in business! The more expensive the hotel room, the more amenities you should receive. Opposite that, the cheaper the room rate, the dirtier the room. It is not common practice for hotel staff to ask if you want to see your room before you pay for it. If in doubt, demand to see it! By law they have to let you see it before you pay for it! If they won't show it to you, go somewhere else!! Many hotels along interstates charge higher rates during the week when business travellers occupy them. Peak season for most hotels in the U.S. is during the summer from Memorial Day (last weekend of May) to Labor Day (first weekend of September). If a hotel advertises it's price on it's sign, most Americans assume that the hotel is not extremely nice. While it may be clean and cheap, it's not going to be the best hotel stay in the world. Hotels in downtown areas of large cities and near major tourist attractions cost a lot more than hotels in small towns.

cheap roadside motels

by richiecdisc about Motel 6 etc

The United States has a form of accommodation for all types of people and all pocketbooks. From swank Five Star Hotels to roadside fleabags, you'll find what you are looking for. As a rule, rooms are not particularly great value compared to similar level countries. While camping presents the best value in the USA, some cannot be bothered sometimes it's not practical. At that point, I generally turn to a cheap roadside motel like Motel 6. These small places are okay for a night or two and certainly serve their purpose for an overnight when you've been driving all day and just need a place to crash. Surprisingly, there are times when they are pretty damn nice.

Check my individual pages for details in cities you might be traveling. For instance, we got a great room in Las Vegas, NV for under $50 within walking distance to the Strip.

I would say my mom's house,...

by donovanel

I would say my mom's house, but I don't think that would go over too well with her! There are a number of reasonable hotels scattered throughout the city!

Quality Inn / Choice Hotels reservation system

by Arzzi

Have you had problems with Choice Hotels reservations?
We have. We booked a room to Quality Inn Jamaica, New York.
We send them mail 6 days before arriving the hotel and Choice Hotels
"reservations system" confirmed us, that everything is OK.
When we arrived to the hotel, it was TOTALLY CLOSED. It has been
closed already one month and still they confirmed us 6 days earlier
that reservations is ok. Don't ever trust Choice Hotels reservation.
They don't listen to you, if you try get any compensation.

I've had similar problems, only with hotels that have yet to open. Others have not yet gotten fully open with such things as air conditioning and the business center not yet working.

Now I do not use the central 800 number booking operation of the chains.

Instead, I spend the extra time to find the direct number for that specific hotel and ask them to send the conformation.

Who doesn't listen to you?

The hotel owner or Choice Hotels?

And while some sort of compensation to you for all your troubles would be nice, and most companies will try to retain your goodwill, don't go into it demanding one. That's sure to sour the other party on you. Compensation for your troubles, should be offered by them; not demanded by you.

I used their system in the US, Canada, Portugal and Germany.. No problems. I've had excellent results however after hearing of your problems I will probably back things up with a phone call If I go to a center like NY.

Hi - I don't recall that there is any specific place. There may be a special event going on during your visit. You can pick up any of the free newspapers (like Mountain Times) that will list events. You can also check here... www.boonecountrydancers.org/index.html - they may be able to help you.

Have fun in the mountains!

Planning a trip to Outer Banks, NC

by shankatz

Hello! We are planning a trip to the Outer Banks and would like some info.
Which is the better town to stay in a Motel....which is the better town to camp in....which town do I avoid.. which one is overrun with tourists.. which has the most charm & shouldn't miss! Please help! We are planning a week there and will have a car.
Thanks in advance!

The end of the island and the town of Corolla are, I believe, some of the less touristy areas. In Corolla, there is a beach at the end that you can drive on with a four-by-four for miles and see wild ponies. I'm not sure about camp sites - you'd have to check into that. But I would check out Corolla.

The northern part of the banks Kitty hawk, Nags head, Kill devil hills are were you will find your most tourist jamming. I prefer Ocracoke, Avon, and Hatteras. Ocracoke your most charming and laid back ... removed also you must take the ferry to reach it. Look at my pages on the banks. Not many hotels to speak of past Nags head most are rental homes. I don't recall camping areas. The rentals are your best bet.

Re: Planning a trip to Outer Banks, NC

Avon, Buxton, Hatteras and Ocracoke are the nicest and least touristy. I believe Hatteras or Buxton has a nice campground with a pool. I can't remember which. Should be listed in any campground guide in your public library. There is an interesting Native American museum in Buxton and you can see the wild ponies out on Ocracoke. It would be best to stay in Hatteras probably, you would get the best deal. There aren't too many hotels on Ocracoke but you can take the ferry over to visit. Oh, and I highly recomend the Froggy Dog restaurant in Avon. Yum!

We have a house out in Avon and have really enjoyed taking vacation out there the last ten years. It's for sale if anyone is interested!

Enjoy your trip!
