Travel Tips for Chapel Hill

Do not Celebrate Duke in Chapel Hill

by Lildeer

The University of North Carolina and Duke are two of the best universities in the country. A mere 11 miles separates these rivals and it is considered poor taste to celebrate one while in the town of the other. Remember in Chapel Hill, you are a Carolina Tar Heels fan, not a "Dookie"

Apple Chill Street Fair

by TimDaoust

The Apple Chill street fair happens once a year in April and is mainly an arts and crafts fair. During the fair which lasts most of the afternoon into the evening you will also find international foods and various entertainment. I have never been but I hear it's cool and I think I'm going to have to go this year. It's on Sunday April 17, this year.

Learn to Fly!

by Lildeer

Ever wanted to take the controls of an airplane, soaring and wheeling through the air? What about if you had an instructor with you, making sure you (and he) enjoy the landing?

At Burlington Regional Airport, you can take a beginners 45 min flight lesson for only $50!! Do a pre-flight inspection, learn basic aerodynamics, as well as take off rolls, turns, and radio calls.

Since the planes normally rent for about three times that with instruction, this is a uniquely inexpensive way to see Chapel Hill from above! Passengers can tag along for $10 each. Call ahead to reserve.

Burlington is about 20 miles outside of Chapel Hill on Interstate 85. The Airport is exit 143.

Carolina Blue

by poznamky

Chapel Hill is a great place in terms of college/ gradutate student life as you will quickly realize if you take an evening walk on the central Franklin Street, which is studded with bars, pubs, coffee shops and restaurants. One would describe it as a college town, since most of the life there revolves around the famous University of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is very close to Durham, where one can also visit UNC's richer and more internationally celebrated Duke University. Both UNC and Duke make much of basketball and are involved in a heated sports rivalry. In terms of food, Chapel Hill offers two things you should not miss: excellent cookies and delicious barbecue.
I personally could not bear the combination of heat and humidity in summer time. That is why I have uploaded a winter picture as I had the chance to experience one of the harshest winters by local standards. A very beautiful one too. The picture was taken by an acquaintance of mine - Alejandro and he deserves all the credit for it.
People in North Carolina still believe in the virtues of the Southern hospitality and The Southern Gentleman. From Chapel Hill It takes just a couple of hours to drive to the Atlantic coast. I had the opportunity to spend some time on the wide sand beaches close to Willmington, NC, which is also worth visiting.

Chapel thrill

by TimDaoust

Chapel Hill is home to the University of North Carolina, the nations oldest public unviersity, founded in 1789. The town itself was incorporated in 1819. It is the smallest city that is part of the Triangle region and one of the most happening places here. It's about a 30 to 40 minute drive from Raleigh but always fun. I've been coming here for quite a while and have many friends that live in the area so I've gotten to know a few of the good places to hang out. Stay tuned as I update and bring more info about what to do in this town.
