Great Restaurants near Waxhaw, NC
by ginav
My husband & I are headed down to Waxhaw next week to look for a rental. We're wondering what restaurants the locals would recommend? Also, are there any events going on in Charlotte during the week of Jun 11th?
-Thanks!

Waxhaw is a small place - a few little eateries there...but I'd zip up highway 16 ( Providence Rd) and go to the Ballantyne area - Stonecrest Shopping Center. Several great places there including Firebirds, City Tavern, etc....
Travel Tips for Charlotte
See a sporting event. ...
by mjmarble
See a sporting event. Charlotte has much to choose from: Football - Panthers http://www.cpanthers.com/ Basketball - Hornets http://www.nba.com/hornets/ or Sting (women) http://www.wnba.com/sting/ Baseball - Knights (minor league)http://www.aaaknights.com/ Hockey - Checkers (minor league) http://www.gocheckers.com/ Or for racing there's Lowe's Speedway in nearby Concord http://www.lowesmotorspeedway.com/index2.html or North Carolina Speedway in Rochingham http://www.northcarolinaspeedway.com/ My recomendation is to go to either the minor league teams. Both are realitively inexpensive and tons of fun. I've never met someone who's gone and not had a good time.
Wilmington
by acemj
Wilmington makes a great weekend trip from Charlotte. It's about a three hour drive and you'll find the state's largest historic district. Charming southern mansions and a beautiful waterfront location on the Cape Fear River make it a great place to visit. Please check out my Wilmington, NC page for more information.
Village Tavern
by mjmarble about Village Tavern
This is a wonderful resturant, although kinda expensive. The food is wonderful and in large portions. It has fabulous desserts. It is part of a small chain (there's one in Greensboro that I know of as well). When I speak of the Pork chops you get a rack of them. Wonderful! Maple Glazed Pork Chops
Great neighborhood joint
by acemj about Alexander Michael's
This place has a great neighborhood feel to it. Maybe that's because you won't find many tourists here or maybe it's because it's in a big ole' house in the historic Fourth Ward area of Uptown Charlotte. They make a great homemade brownie, good burgers and if you want to try something a little different, give the fried pickles a try (yeah, they really DO fry everything in the South).
Vegetarian Indian Cuisine
by etfromnc about Woodlands Restaurants (sic)
You probably have to be looking for this restaurant to go there. It is not in a restaurant nor entertainment district. It does not have any fancy signs out front and, to my knowledge, it does not do any significant advertising. BUT, it does have a niche and I was a bit surprised that it was not any busier than it was.
It is a vegetarian East (their description, not mine) Asian restaurant featuring Indian cuisine but also offering dishes from other Asian nations. I am not a vegetarian so there could be an argument that I should not rate this restaurant. I will not frequent the Woodlands but the food was acceptable. I have tried their vegetarian fried rice, their spring rolls, and a delightful sweet corn soup. I do love corn but I also enjoy vegetarian fried rice and spring rolls but here the corn soup was my favorite. It was sweeter than what we call "sweet corn" in the southern USA but was not so sweet as to be like a dessert. I enjoyed it and if I ever have occasion to return, I will eat a double serving of their sweet corn soup. Their spring rolls were too delicate and the vegetables in the fried rice were very sparse.
