Here's the deal with Charlotte. Everybody knows everybody. You have to. The city's not that big anyway, but since the average Charlottean is 30-something with two kids, living in the suburbs, if you're a 20-something single person, you're in a very small minority. So yeah, I knew Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets. I've been out drinking with quarterbacks who'd ought not be drinking. Everyone does. The thing is, nearly everyone from Charlotte is from somewhere else and they're frankly excited to see fresh meat... er... I mean... fresh faces. *grin* So don't worry if you're not a Southerner. About 45% of the people you'll meet are from upstate New York, anyway.

Total Wine & More has an incredible selection of wine and beer and has the best prices in town, bar none. Their selection of California wines is the a strongpoint, but you might want to check out some North Carolina wines. They also have wine and bar accessories as well as a great beer selection. Around 20% cheaper than most other wine shops in the city
You MUST visit this bakery and cafe!!!

It's located near the Concord Mills Mall. The food is delicious. Service is great. We ordered their You Pick Two deal for $5.89: you select two of the following -- any bowl of soup, any half sandwich, any half salad.
I chose Turkey Artichoke on Basil Pesto Focaccia hot panini sandwich and Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice soup. Delicious and filling!
Decent Fast Food

Chick Fil-A is a good choice if you're in a hurry or if you're trying to save some money. The Chick Fil-A Sandwich is a fried and breaded concoction, but they also have a char-grilled version if you're watching the calories. Char-grilled Chicken Sandwich and waffle fries with a lemonade.
First Union (Wachovia) Atrium

Banks have a tendency to change hands via mergers and acquisitions so as of right now this is the Wachovia Atrium (formerly the First Union). In fact, my former employer Bank of America has been through a number of mergers most notably in the late 90s when Nationsbank merged with Bank of America and when Bank of America merged with Fleet Bank of Boston and most recently when BofA purchased MBNA.
