Uptown vs. Downtown
I don't know if this was an attempt to make the Charlotte area seem more upscale, but the people here do not call the downtown area "downtown." Instead, it's "uptown." So its uptown Charlotte, not downtown Charlotte.

About a 30-40 minute drive from Charlotte is this wonderful retreat for any nature lover. The botanical gardens are composed of a series of gardens linked by beautifully landscaped pathways and fountains. If you love flowers and landscape, this place is a must.
You can reach DSGB by taking I-85 South toward Gastonia and then taking the Belmont/Mount Holly Exit heading south (Hwy 273). You'll see signs for the gardens. The address is 6500 South New Hope Road in Belmont.
Someone else on this site mentioned one awesome restaurant The Cajun Queen. Man that is one awesome place awesome food, great music, and it is in a pretty cool old building! Even though that is a great place there is 1 place I like better! TRIOS is a great restaurant near Pineville! Very creative cusine and a variety of choices for anyone!
What I would call fusion cusine. Great combination of ingrediants and flavors! Great Apps. Everything I have had here is wonderful.
Once upon a time, there was a hotel named "Hotel Charlotte." Today there is no hotel named Hotel Charlotte but there is a Hotel Charlotte Restaurant and to further confuse long-time Charlotteans, it is nowhere near the old Hotel Charlotte. (I have not yet been able to determine whether there is any official relationship between the no longer extant hotel and the thriving restaurant of today, although the mahogany bar and the solid cherry valet doors from the original Hotel Charlotte which was built during Prohibition as a front for an underground gym are a part of the new restaurant.) I had been to a few dinner meetings there where the menu was pre-selected by the hosts but recently made a thrilling discovery about the Hotel Charlotte Restaurant.
Hotel Charlotte Restaurant casts a New Orleans spell on its food, conjuring up a slate of Cajun- and Creole-inspired cuisine. Big Easy classics include the oyster po' boy ($10.95), shrimp etouffee served with sides of white rice and vegetables ($16.95), and the jumbo gumbo, a mouthwatering medley of blackened chicken, andouille sausage, shrimp, rice, and the restaurant's house gumbo ($16.95). Non-bayou-born bounties on Hotel Charlotte Restaurant's menu include a grilled pimiento cheeseburger ($8.95); the "captain's platter" with fried flounder, gulf shrimp, oysters, and a deviled crab ($18.95); and sweet-potato ravioli ($13.95). Pre-entree pleasantries include an herbed cheesecake appetizer with cream cheese, parmesan, herbs, onion, and country ham in a puff pastry shell ($9.95), and the she-crab soup ($5 for a cup, $6 for a bowl), a Lowcountry favorite among both he-people and she-people. Brunch items and a brunch buffet are offered on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
While enjoying a martini ($8) or roasting s'mores over an order of bananas foster ($6.95 per person for a tableside presentation), grub-eating guests of Hotel Charlotte Restaurant can marvel at the attention to historic detail invested in the décor. The jumbo gumbo is probably the best gumbo which I have eaten outside of New Orleans, except for some which was made for us by a very special friend when I lived in San Antonio. (Thanks, JoAnne!)
Pho Hoa is actually an international chain of Vietnamese restaurants. In Charlotte, the restaurant is located in the heart of one of the city's most ethnically diverse streets, Central Avenue. The interior is clean, bright and simple and most of the time, the clientele is a good mix of Vietnamese born and non-Vietnamese born. I've been here five or six times and I've always gotten the same thing, Pho Chicken. In fact, I don't even think it's called that on the menu, but trust me, if you tell the waiter you want Pho with chicken, he'll understand. The soup is made up of a light broth, with vermicelli noodles, fresh basil and chicken. It's great! Also, if you like coffee, be sure to try the Vietnamese coffee, "Ca Phe Sua", which is made with sweetened condensed milk. Yum.
