Rea Road pronunciation
by MeowFoolery
If you end up in the Southern end of town (Ballantyne and surrounding area), you may run into Rea Road. The correct pronunciation is "RAY" (as in "ray of light"), not "REE-AH".
Locals get very upset if you mispronounce the name of this road!
Quiet spots in the heart of Uptown
by acemj
Even in the midst of the skyscrapers in Uptown Charlotte, it's possible to find a quiet spot to ditch the crowds. If you're visiting the city, grab a sandwich and head to this courtyard of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Or you can find plenty of peace in the tiny squares in the Fourth Ward district. You might also try the area around the Old Settler's Cemetery between 5th & 6th near First Presbyterian Church.

Try the Penguin. It's a true grease pit hole in the wall. But where else can you have wine with your corndog?
Its got tons of charm plus it's cheap. You'll find all sorts in there from the artsy eclectic, to business professionals, to those who have more piercing than I can count. Its just a great laid back environment.
Okay, one more Steakhouse
by acemj about Morton's of Chicago
Morton's is a great place for a power dinner or for a special occasion. Everything is served a la carte and the steaks are truly excellent. It's a cigar friendly place that is suited for a high class dinner, but be prepared to pay high class prices too. Filet Mignon, of course.
Good, for a chain
by acemj about Bonefish Grill
I will always choose a locally-owned place over a national chain, but I swear there are people who prefer the sometimes more polished look and familiarity of a chain. If that's the case, Bonefish Grill is a good choice for seafood. I went here with a bunch of bankers (figures!) and was admittedly surprised at how good the food was. They fly there fish in fresh daily and the preparations were not only creative, they were appropriately simple enough to allow the freshness of the fish shine through. I had the Grilled Ahi Tuna, which was excellent. They also have Mahi Mahi, swordfish, grouper, salmon, trout, bass and others. And if you're not into fish, they also prepare good steaks, chicken and pork dishes.
