Travel Tips for Greenville

Greenville, North Carolina

by HokieinNC

"Greenville, NC - Home of the ECU Pirates"

Greenville is a town of about 60,000 people about an hour and a half east of Raleigh, North Carolina's state capital. When traveling to on Hwy 264 East from Raleigh, you literally see almost nothing but fields and trees before Greenville pops up out of nowhere. It really is bigger than one might think. G-Vegas (as the younger crowd likes to call it) has its fair share of malls - both strip malls and indoor malls - and has a downtown area. Downtown seems to have gone downhill recently - it was once a hotspot for East Carolina University students. There are still some good spots, but overall it kind of looks run down. Downtown is centralized around the Tar River. Don't venture north of the river - you won't find much. Stick around Greenville Blvd. and you'll see most of Greenville has to offer commercially. East Carolina University is near the downtown area (Go Pirates!), Pirate football is usually in full swing in the fall, so that's fun for tailgaters. For living in, Greenville has that small town feel but is large enough to where you feel like you have plenty of options for eating out and shopping. It is also only an hour and a half from the beach. Hope you enjoy it!
