the town of lake lure is located on US 64 near the north carolina-south carolina border between spartanburg and asheville. in 1925 the carolina mountain power company dammed the broad river creating lake lure. lake lure covers 720 acres and has 27 miles of shore line. the town of lake lure was incorporated in 1927. in 1987 movie "dirty dancing" was filmed in lake lure. lake lure has much to offer the tourist. lake lure is a beautiful mountain lake for boating and fishing. the town has a hotel, a number of B&B inns, and several good restaurants and bars. also of interest to the tourist is nearby chimney rock park. lake lure is a very nice place to visit in the western carolina mountains.
