Black Mountain/Briar Bottom Campground: Camping at the Base of Mount Mitchell

Black Mountain and Briar Bottom Campgrounds are located at the base of Mount Mitchell in Pisgah National Forest. Black Mountain has individual sites and Briar Bottom has group camping sites. The campsites have picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby are bathrooms with flush toilets and potable water. We stayed at the Briar Bottom Campground at the Poplar site for a hiking trip at Mount Mitchell and had a nice stay. The group site was spacious, plenty of room for more than ten tents, and the restroom was nearby.

At the base of Mount Mitchell, the campground has easy hiking access to the Mount Mitchell Trail and Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Also, Setrock Falls is just a short hike from the campground.
