We got married at The Winds
by A TripAdvisor Member
We got married at The Winds in September of this year. There is no other place in the world I would have been married. It was breathtaking. Everyone at The Winds were wonderful and we had the best time. By the time that we got to the hotel everyone knew we were getting married there and made us feel so welcomed and special. When we arrived our room had two beautiful champagne glass and a nice bottle of chilled champagne. All of our 25 quests that came with us were treated wonderfully and even some that showed up at the last minute were treated with high reguard. And The Winds actually gave them a room at the last minute! I would recommend everyone going to The Winds every chance they get. My husband and I can't wait until our anniversary next year! Thanks for making our day special.
Strict Cancellation Policy
by TripAdvisor Member AC94
Be aware of their strict cancellation policy before making reservations. In the summer of 2003, I made reservations at The Winds for the first week in August. We had to cancel our plans 29 days prior to our arrival. Since it was not 30 days prior to our expected arrival, they charged my credit card $250.00. After speaking with several people (including at least one manager), they said they would apply the $250.00 to a future visit within the next 12 months. Are they kidding? Do they honestly think I'm going to give then any more money? I was really upset. It was during their peak season and one day less than the 30 days! Most resorts charge if the cancellation is less than 14 days from the expected arrival. Just beware before giving your credit card info!!!
Love The Winds and Ocean Isle Beach

Just returned from a 4 day/3 night vacation at Ocean Isle Beach, NC with my daughter. Second time I've been to the island, first time staying at The Winds. We had a beautiful deluxe room in the Carolina Breeze complex facing the pools.
Everything was perfect....clean rooms (great maid service), warm sun (high 70's-low 80's), and beautiful location. We used the heated indoor pool since the outdoor pools were still a little cool for us. The beach was beautiful, with plenty of places to sunbathe and gather shells. Just like the pools, the water was a little cold to us (supposedly 71 degrees).
We both loved the FREE daily hot buffet breakfast served from 6am-10am. The buffet had everything: eggs, bacon, link sausage, milk gravy with sausage, biscuits, toast, jelly, sweet rolls, muffins, waffles, fruit ambroisa, 4 different boxed cereals, coffee, milk, apple and orange juices. We never left hungry.
The complex itself is very family-oriented. At the main pool daily, they also serve drinks and snacks. The Winds is very beautiful with many tropical plants planted all over the complex. Our room had 2 double beds, cable tv, refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker, toaster, and plates and utensils.
The only negative thing about staying in Ocean Isle is the distance to Myrtle Beach...if you plan on visiting Myrtle Beach daily plan on additional gas. We ate at several restaurants which were all very good: Sharky's in Ocean Isle, the Calabash Seafood Hut in Calabash, and the Mad Boar in Barefoot Landing, N. Myrtle Beach.
Will definitely visit again.
Not worth the money

I will not be staying at The Winds again. I went there for a weekend stay and was not impressed. The receptionist staff was not friendly at all. Our door was a sliding glass door which we could not get to lock half the time and had a gap in it at the bottom where it would not close all the way. I had to ask for help getting it locked twice and both times the staff was not very pleasant in handling the situation. Within 10 minutes of being there, our TV caught fire and started smoking. In addition, I was kept awake at night by the tenants upstairs and when calling into the front desk to ask if anything could be done, I was not reassured, and the noise continued for an hour more. Definitely not worth the money spent.

Simply the most horrific experience to date. As a former tv producer with Discovery's Travel Channel, I have stayed in hotels all around the world. This one takes the cake. My family arrived and checked into a small, stale room with dirty towels from the previous guests stuffed underneath the sink, garbage on the floor and dirty tissues hanging from the ceiling light.
We were then moved to a SMALLER room over the noisy pool ( we have a 2 year old who needed a nap.) In this room, the toilet clogged 5 minutes after unpacking. I went to the front desk and asked to use a plunger and was told to "bring it back within the hour" as it was the only one they had.
After unclogging my toilet in room number 2, I returned the plunger and was ready to ask for a refund. Unfortunately, there were no other accomodations available locally. So, I complained to the Manager about the dirty conditions in the first room, the clogged toilet in the second room and was told to "calm down." She then asked me to "speak to"(ie scold) the cleaning woman regarding the poor job she did cleaning my first room. The manager not only asked me to do HER job in scolding the staff, but embarrassed me by expecting me to tell off her employees. That was her job, I was on vacation.
To make up for all of these incidents, the Manager tried to accomodate my family by moving us to yet a third room. Granted it was bigger ... but nothing could have made this experience better. Traveler Beware, I've had better accomodations in third world countries.
