One of the best bars in town
by MovingMere about The Flying Saucer
This is one of my favorite bars in Raleigh. Monday nights are pint night and most drafts are $2.50; other nights have $2.50 specials on select beers. It's a great place to have a few beers with someone after work because of the relaxed atmosphere. It's especially great in warmer weather, when you can take advantage of their outdoor seating. Tuesday nights are trivia nights at 7 and 9:30 and can be pretty cool. They used to serve free hot food with it, but I'm not sure if that still happens.
Also, because I can't keep beers straight, one of the things I like the best about this bar is that you can get a sample shot before committing to a whole pint... and there are a lot of beers to choose from - 80 on tap and more in the bottle! One of the things they're known for is the UFO club. For $14 bucks, you get a free t-shirt and the opportunity to have your name and quote on a saucer on the wall. All you have to do is drink 200 different beers!
I haven't eaten there, but I've heard their food is really good. Also, you can reserve the back room for private parties. casual
Hometown Brewery
by TimDaoust about Greenshields pub and brewery
The food here is just generally American style burger and fries, club sandwiches and a soup of the day type of stuff. They also have a buffalo shrimp recipe and a Scotch egg dish. What's really unique here is the beer which is brewed in house. They have a pilsner, a brown ale, a hefeweizen and a stout...oh, and their own root beer as well. The atmosphere is nice and rustic and there's plenty of outdoor seating. It is located in the historic city market area off of Moore's square, whose cobblestone streets give it a very European feel.
I must add that this place recently suffered some smoke damage from a fire and when I checked the other day, sadly, they seem to be selling the place. This tip shall stand as a memory to the great times I had here. I liked their Hefeweizen and the root beer.

The Capitol Building

I haven't been in here in a while but it's a main historic site in downtown Raleigh. It was completed in 1840 and sits on Edenton St. on a block all to itself. For tour information and history, go here.

I have lived in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-some say Cary should make it a square) on and off for several years and grew up 50 miles away. What's hot here? College basketball, outdoor activities, spending time with family, the universities, barbecue, iced tea, going to church, and traveling to the beach and mountains.
